in singles matches, there are occasions where the shuttle lands exactly on the line, misleading the opponent who thought it was out. think gong ZC can produce such shots at very crucial moments...is there a technique for it? or sheer luck every time?

I don't think it's possible to hit the shuttlecock so it lands right on the line everytime, because while it is possible to have it land in a certain area, I don't think it is possible to have it land on a precise area.

yeah, for that particular shot, a 70% accuracy would be hard enough to get for most ppl, pro or not.

they can't land it on the line every single time. but with a lot of practice they can lower the margin of error by a lot. (or the standard deviation of the bell curve, if you wish)

Cooler, I don't mean to offend you by comparing you to that tasteless commentator Gillian-whatever on StarSports (apologies to all Gil-fans) but she said sth like that as well, not wrt "landing on the line" but all those impossible net shots that hit the top of the tape and fall over like just...

    i find her really annoying.

i find it even more annoying that StarSports don't have nicam so i can listen to Tian and Chui's Chinese commentating.

is there a way to filter out human voices? didn't there used to be machines that would take a song and filter out the singer's voice? (for karaoke)

    commentators

i tot star sports have xu mei yan and zhao jian hua as Mandarin commentators? basically, i think Xu is familiar only with the China squad and she gets names wrong as well. Does any1 remember "Anthony Bush"? USed to be Gillian & him but this time round it was darren Bush...always repeating or rephrasing what gillian said.

  12. that's true. this is also true.

    Re: commentators

yes they do. and i think they do a better job on commentating.

the problem with StarSport is that some region (HK, for example) gets the English commentating only. without the option of listening to the Mandarin one. StarSports unfortunately missed the fact that HK is make up of 98% Chinese.

    Re: commentators

Well Kwun, some people just don't have common sense. But you should also remember that HK was a former British colony. And that Anthony Bush guy sounded like a parrot.

    Re: commentators

    Hey Kwun...

May and I were just talking abt this online yesterday and here's our vote for commentators from THIS forum:

You and Byro (for Indo vs China)
Pebulutangkis and Fan (for a violent Indo vs China commentary)
    You and Cheung (anything else)
Cheung and anyone else (Cheung to inject his common sense and impartiality into the commentary)

The stuff if the bracket is from me... dun go running after May please =P

Btw, do HK ppl understand spoken Chinese (sorry, this isn't meant as a insult).

cannot. need to listen to the loud sound of the shuttle being whacked by the racket. and besides, and the loud cheers from the crowd.

damn. that's is not going to work either, i would've missed things like Hendrawan's grunt if i filter out all human voices.

    aiyah.
