I went again today and there was only 5 of us! 6 courts and only 5 people? We need more people than that! Come and play at San Jose State!

    Room SPX 44A

    $1 for students
    $3 for non-students!

    M-T 7pm-11pm
    F 7pm-10pm!

That really is quite cheap, though I'm sure that doesn't include shuttles. Why don't you other peeps in Geekville USA play there?

Maybe there's a problem with the gym itself - ceiling too low?

That is really cheap though. I'd go to play singles the whole night.

actually, i don't know why. probably because no one knows about it!

and traditionally most of the players there play with plastic. that rules out 75% of the badminton population...

But if you take your own shuttles, you'd have no problem playing singles.

Even take a bag of shuttles and do some training.

When is my next trip to SF???

Exactly that's what I'd do, probably the training bit, not the singles since unlike your 1.5 hour game, I'd be dead after 30 mins tops ;P

Play with plastic, ew, bring your own shuttles and train with Janet, Kwun ;)

I was dead after 30 mins but pretended to be like Sun Jun in the 97 WC final - have the 'never say die' attitude. I was triple dead after my match because I was trying to break the opponents rhythm when I myself didn't have good rhythm. It was totally exhausting.

Training all the way. That's what I need.

That SJ gym sounds so good being so empty - even if the hall is not that good, I would go and spend an hour just practising tumbling netshots.

Actually most of the players play with feather birds. The guys that were playing yesterday only used feather birds. The more less experienced players play with plastics but most of the time they are just having a good time. But then again, there IS NO ONE THERE!

The only problem that I know of is the basketball hoops that are on top. So sometimes when you clear, the birds get stuck on the backboard. However, these hoops are only on 2 of the 6 courts and it's not that big of a problem. If you want, I can take pictures of the gym itself with all the EMPTY SPACE! :)

actually sj state gym is pretty nice, i go on weekends, i just dont have time to go on weekdays, especially around those times. Majority of us use feather, atleast.. during the weekends =/ , i duno about the weekdays.. never been. But with soo many open courts , its perfect to practice , and not be afraid of someone's perception of you ^_- .

Hey, too bad, I was just there last week (San Leandro). What are the driving directions to the gym? for the next time Im in the area.

You guys should come to Manila, badminton is the big thing now. We have gyms all over the place with real courts, taraflex/mondoflex on wood--and not just converted basketball courts. Much easier on the feet and knees.

I was wondering if SJSU gym is empty cuz of Bingtan, I kno alot of my friends go to Bingtan on Wensdays, when they used to go to SJSU...since all the top bay area players have migrated to Bintang...wish I could go to either one...but I have to work nights, plus its pretty far away...probably be empty till HS badminton season...last time I played their it was packed, last year

The address to San Jose State is:

    1 Washington Square
    San Jose, CA 95112

The room to play is SPC 44A. The SPC hall is located close to the lower left hand corner by Yoshihiro Uchida hall. KEEP IN MIND people that there is FREE PUBLIC PARKING in San Jose State after 6pm! So since open gym STARTS at 7pm, you can parking at the free lots located on 3rd st, 4th st and San Fernando.

This is a link to the main campus map:
    http://www.sjsu.edu/inc/content/campus_maps/maincampus.gif

Here is an enclosed link on where to park and where to go.
    http://home.comcast.net/~zclyh3/badminton.JPG

If you have anymore questions, feel free to PM me. Heck, I might even do a video recording on how to get here and post it on the forums..ahhahah

On a side note, when you parking in the free parking, you will get a parking ticket to get into the structure. Then, when you come back, there is a machine where you can pay for your parking. Since parking is FREE after 6pm, just put your ticket into the machine and it will immediately validate the ticket with no cost from you. Then, just head out, put the ticket into the machine and go home!

I used to go to SJSU to play, but that was about 2 years ago. Now I go to Bintang because I now have membership there. I don't want that membership to go to waste.

Cheung - Please let us know when you'll be in town. I think I missed the last time you were here.
