i thought this is a good topic to dwell on.
some (brett, frustrated guy) have already mentioned a few but i like to compile a list of delay tactics one could use or to recognize from their opponent
    1. unloosening shoe laces and re-tie them, the more lace holes the better
    2. straighten out the feather
    3. pick up bits of feather and walk to court edge and discard it, repeat if you really tire.
4.use your shoes and dry out droplet of sweats. if you really tire, walk around pretending to look for more sweat droplets. Repeat if necessarily. Last resort, ask for lineman to wipe floor with towel. Try to point to several spots on the floor.
    5. examine shuttle and walk right up to the linesman to exchange for new one. Dont throw it to him, it cost energy and shorten delay
    6. ask for water break if u could
    7. rub your eyes a few times
    8. check for string damage or straighen out the strings
    9. walk to the service court slowly
    10. hold up your hand and use up as much time to prepare for the reception of shuttle
    11. hand deliver the shuttle to your opponent over the net. This also show good sportmanship.

if other people had more to add, please do

i've got a very good one, if u get a water break, spill the water onto the floor.

    12. Stand ready (or seemingly ready) but not attempt to return the serve when it comes. If you don't attempt a return, you're considered "not ready" and the serve will have to be replayed. Use sparingly! It's dirty but will give you a lot of time, plus it's very frustrating for your opponent.

yeah, makes the opponent lose concentration too. gud especially 4 doubles, where u have to be focused to do a good serve.

Start picking arguements wiv d lines men and act like a @!#$ idiot,
then turn 2 d empire and start picking on him (a good example: ask him if he's racist or something)
then if your opponent starts 2 get frustrated, turn on him instead and tell him 2 shout his big fat gob

If d crowd turns on u, then throw d racquet at dem or maybe ya bag
(me thinks da racquet would b ideal)
then walk slowly up 2 d spectator seats 2 get ya racquet, but dont pick a fight cos dat will tire u out

If u get in trouble then apologise 4 d fuss and play on

THERE TOTALLY FRESHENED UP AND READY 2 TAKE DA WORLD ON

Is that really allowed in IBF tournaments?

Hey Mag, haven't heard from you lately - have you been burning up more of your nearly endless supply of vacation?

don't one need umpire's ok to change your racket?
of course, approaching the umpire to ask for a racket change does eat up some more time.

I think it will be nice to have your mobile phone near the
posts. So you can pick it up quickly during the match or about
    to serve.

wait for the passer-by to get out of the court vicinity. make sure you look out for the ones who are about to approach. and then go talk some sense into them for walking so close to your court. then proceed to walk casually back to serve. apologizing to your opponent for the delay.

I know a good one that I always use........pretend that your muscles are straining rite before he serves......LOL.......this always pisses my oppenents off.........

Or if you are playing doubles.......before the oppenent serves........say stop and pretend to talk to your doubles partner about the tactics......

Walk around the outskirts of the court beckoning to the crowd with both arms, inciting them to a near riot, screaming "WHO'S THE KING? WHO'S THE KING?" After doing a few muscle flexes, and a photo op with young fans, return to the serving box. If opponent complains, yell loudly back, "KEEP YOUR PANTIES ON, WHINER BOY!"

can players (male) change their clothes in the middle of a game? or only between 2 games?

    here is one:

one of my opponent lost a rally, and when returning the shuttle to me, he by mistake hit it to the courtside. so i have to walk all the way to pick it up. while he was just standing there, taking his breath.

Yeah, sure it's allowed, in fact it's not too uncommon. Sometimes the server serves too quickly, sometimes the receiver takes too long to get ready... sometimes on purpose, sometimes not. It's hard for the judge to do anything other than decide that the serve be replayed.

As to my absense: I've been offline for a while, and will continue to be to and fro, for less than pleasant family reasons. But I'll be back, so beware!

Flirt with the moppers while they are at it to distract them so they'll take a longer time to mop... ?
