Hi everyone. I am looking for places to play in the lower mainland. The problem is that everyone I used to play with I have lost contact with. I am only a single and everyone usually goes in groups of people. I am a competitive player but have a hard time getting a partner. What should I do.:crying:
Well you're in luck, you live in a hotbed of badminton activity! There are a lot of dropins which are very friendly around the GVRD area. A search of the forum for places to play and vancouver will yield a lot of results, so I won't repeat them here right now. As for a concrete place, you can try swinging by Collingwood Neighbourhood House on Sunday afternoon for a session run by our own Break-My-String here on this forum. It's a feather birds, first come first server until the limit, one person drop in friendly environment. Oh, it's at 12pm, but spots fill up fast by 11:30am. I'll leave it to the other BF'ers to fill you in on other recommendations. See you on the court.
I know that Guildford Sport Complex has badminton drop-in, but it tends to be really busy. Also, another club that runs out of Cloverdale (Highschool?) has a good number of local tourney players. A good tip would be to check out your local community recreational guide for more info as some clubs are listed. Many small private clubs runs out of highschools (renting courts), downside is they might not open year-round but rather follow the school year.
Hi guys, I am a newbie here,A badminton fan who used to play 2 to 3 times in the past 5 years.I live in east Van,and I went to Collingwood Community Center to play several times on Sunday.Yes,CCC is a good place for one to drop in.It's open for advanced level (yet, still some of them are not so high grade) .4 courts,20 to 28 players every time. You can meet some very good players if you are lucky.
Hah! Are you the very guy who gave those advance players a hard time? I have watched your game this sunday, you're really good.
Wow! Hi XYQH-Watson ... I was your partner in the last few games against Karl (Break-My-String) and Oscar. You are REALLY good! -dave
Oh I think I have a picture of you now watson.... you are good!!! Come out to Collingwood more often if you can!
Monday night at downtown Round House Community Center..get there before 7:45 pm for dropins...the session is till 10:45pm.....3 hours of badminton!Advance players prefered. Wensday night at Kitsilano Community Center...same deal. also one could book a court at Kerrisdale Community Center from 7pm to 8 pm...but get there early. dropin cost is about $5/$6 and plastic bird. cheers
Collingwood is a good place to play, if you wanna have fun. Some of us, like Watson will give you a run for the money. Did I say "run", that is enough to make me tired, ask Rudolf about last Sundays game. He He
Wow!It's surprised to find so many "Collingwood guys" here!I am very glad to find this place to talk with everyone.
That's you!hahaha... Yes,those were the two most interesting games I had yesterday. We can be partners to beat them next time.
Good plan! ... We'll play mixed double strategy next time, me in the front covering the net, and you cover everywhere else!!!!! -dave
I don't think we need mixed double strategy because you are good enough. We can beat them in mens double strategy.
Anyone know more about downtown Round House Community? Is it good for dropin?I want more practices recently .Too many faults I have made when playing badminton these several times. It sounds good for the "3 hours" and the "advance players prefered",but "plastic bird"...
If you plan on doing a lot of drop-ins, I recommend you think about joining Vancouver Racquets Club. There are plenty of VRC members here on the forum who can sign you into the club for a try-out to see if you like it or not. Alternatively, there's also Richmond Badminton Club that plays 6:30 to 10pm if I'm not mistaken, however their drop-in is $7 and you have to sit-out of they're full. wwcbro, who attended Collingwood yesterday plays at RBC. -dave
Can't picture u playing with plastic birds Watson. Hey, u are getting serious in your game, I am gonna get a trashing from u soon.
Heh! It happens on a very frequent basis. Don't sweat about it. Anyway, have you managed to find out places to play in Surrey?
STICK IT UP!!! This is a thread hijack!!! Quit typing and nobody gets hurt ok. Yeah, have you been able to find a place to play? If not, just come out to Collingwood this Sunday if you're free and it's not too far for you. The local badder scene's not that big, and everyone knows everyone.
