Some pics of Peter Gade`s smash in fine detail - you can see quite a lot of his technique, especially how far the racquet comes back before he strikes the shuttle and his follow-through. Enjoy!!

    Cheers,

Well spotted!!!! It looks like them doesn`t it. I`m pretty sure this pic was taken during the `99 Japan Open - you can see the logo on the linespersons jumper.

Are we playing where is waldo, or discussing technique? If we discuss technique, this is what i notice. As memtion by gregr, the non-racket hand is helpful to generate more power but in order to work, the timing and motion has to be correct. Soon as the non-racket hand extended out and start to descend, at this point the racket start to come forward. For me, the non-racket hand is like a jump start motion of the smash. Do you guys and gals pay attention to your non-racket hand when smashing or you think the non-racket hand is useless in a smash?

    Re: What is the topic?

yes. depending on who you talk to and who you look at.

    i have been slow-mo'ing Halim's jumpsmashes lately. i notice a few things:

    1) his smash has a lot of arm and shoulder motion, basically, he uses his whole body and arm to whack the birdie.

    2) his non-racket arm motion, he rotates his n-ra with the racket arm. the whole upper body goes counterclockwise first. and then after the ra starts the main swing motion, the n-ra then starts to change direction, and then he gets the arm-arm compression.
