The IBF is to stage an EGM at the end of this year as it looks to adopt a new strategic plan for 2005 and beyond. The meeting, to be held on 1 December in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, will seek support for IBF Council’s new strategic concepts – first introduced to Member Associations at the 2004 AGM in Jakarta – and will present new budget proposals geared towards the decentralization and streamlining of the Federation’s activities. If adopted, these proposals would allow for the redistribution of IBF’s share of Olympic TV revenues to the five Continental Confederations and for development projects worldwide as part of the decentralization model, and continue their emphasis on global development with plans to open a series of permanent IBF Training Centers designed to ensure that Associations have equal access to high-quality training and facilities. The strategy proposals would see an overhaul to the existing IBF Council structure with Officers to serve no more than two four-year terms in the same position, and a review of the Federation’s central office location, currently in Cheltenham, UK. As part of its ongoing appraisal of administration costs, IBF has received interest in hosting the central office from Canada, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and USA.
this is interesting. here are the key things i noticed for this strategy proposal. - decentralizing of the IBF's power - giving Continental Federation more responsibility in training and development of the game. as well as decentralizing funds by giving the continental federation more money as now they need the extra funding to achieve the new responsibilities. - review of the IBF's central location. with emphasis being the "review". ie. there is no decision made but there is a potential that the long talked about move of the IBF central office will happen. but my guess is that if that do happen, it will have to wait till EGM 2006.
