Hmm, not sure if this should be in General or in the Olympics. Anyhow, I'm sure the mods can move it to the right place. I've been watching the Athens MD Gold Medal match between Ha/Kim and Lee/Yoo and noticed that there seems to be extra line judges but not sure what lines they were watching. Usually you will have 6 line judges (3 on each side) at the end of the court watching the side and centre lines and then 4 line judges (2 on each side) to watch the service line and the back lines. In the MD Gold Medal match, there seems to be an extra line judge (one on each side) sitting between the service line judge and the back line judge. Does anyone have any idea what these judges would be watching for? The first diagram shows the standard line judges placing for doubles and the second one shows the line judges placing for the Olympics. The cam shot was of the match and you can see the extra judge sitting between the two side line judges.
I also noticed that, too, especially extra judges are all wearing shorts (and regular judges are all wearing long pants)
Never mind. Finally figured what those extra "line judges" were. They were not line judges but rather the floor sweepers. Noticed that they were wearing shorts as BlueJeff indicated and further video shows the mop lying behind them. Must be nice because they can actually watch the match without having to worry about looking at the lines.
