...but I've been playing badminton for more than 15yrs now and have never ever seen a black person playing the game in any of the countries I've played in. I could be wrong, but there is no black player who plays professional badminton and is well recognized around the world. So what is it about this game that makes them want to stay away from it? Just a thought...once again I'm sorry if I've stirred up anyone by saying something that may not be true...
Well, I've seen at least one (as far as I can remember) playing. Quite good at serving. Very enthusiastic. You might also want to read the IBF news for the development of badminton in Africa. OK hold up i know a guy named Elliot Beils ..he is Black and has been playing badminton in Nova Scotia for years he is ranked 11th in my Province really nice guy and a great player
I remember the top player in the U.S. for a short time some 15 yrs ago was a black-american. Not sure if he played any international tournaments tho'. Haven't seen very many other blacks playing in this area. By the same token not too many caucasians either; mostly of the whites are Danish or British players.
this is also a matter of culture... some sports are just not played largely by certain ppl, you could think of hundreds of examples of different ethnic or cultural groups excelling in certain specific areas of sport while not participating in others . dont make too much of it
Whoa - that anyone would remember her in this forum! Respect, Bbn! She was black, indeed, born in Africa but adopted by Swedish parents as an infant I think.
you know, Mag, this is smth that upbringing has a lot to do with. even though hereditary genes from her biological parents have a bearing on it.
hey! I've got tons of black friends playing badminton, but I wont rag on you for your observation. The one guy I know in particular is pretty good as well.
I'm very sure that if a black person is trained in badminton properly he/she will be able to beat players of any other race. I mean look at Michael Jordan, Tiger Wood, Venus Williams, etc. They are really the best in their league. They are really gifted in sports and entertainment, there's no doubt about it. So move away Hendrawan, Chen Hong, Gong, Peter, here comes.. Jefferson, Washington, ...
I don't think thats racist its quite true , not many black people play badminton near me. Only a couple(good players though) . And one is 3rd Europe (disabled) mens singles and mens doubles
eric reid, havnt seen him playing in a while though theres a few other ones from calgary that play tournaments as well well 2 others. but proessionally there are african countries that do have badminton teams like uganda and all that have them too they went to last years thomas cup if im not mistaken.
Don't worry, it's an observation, and I'm with you on that. I've played at my uni for th past 3 years, so far I've only seen about 2-3 out of maybe...150ish. Out of the 3, only 1 is good and takes it seriously, the other 2, just play for fun.
i think they tend to gravitate to basketball, football and baseball. TV still influence kids alot here.
