Hi Pros!! I just broke my Blackknight racket 2004i... I'm planning to be more fancy and willing to buy the Prince More 85. Now, I live in Canada and none of the shop sell any Y-joint racket... I had to order it from England. While i''m waiting, I would like to know what are the strings and tensions recommended? I strung my blacknight at 24lbs and I heard there's a special way to string the Y-joint rackets. Cheers!
i have an old prince catalyst but when i bought it the tension was 26lbs and that seemed to be fine,. but if you cant find an answer on this board then go to a specialist site or shop
Prince racket should be able to hold 24lb, as once I was told the default tension for the racket (Thunder) was 23-24 range. As for the string pattern, as long as the stringer follow the instruction and know what s/he is doing, you should be fine.
if i recall correctly, the Y-joint prince rackets have wider string spacings. as a result of that, the string need to be tensioned higher than normal racket in order to maintain the same feel.
The tension difference mainly depend on the type of machine the stringer is using, rather than the shape of the racket.
My expereince (having both a more+87 and more+85 in my collection) is that you should string the Y-joint rackets harder than isometric ones for the same feel.. This makes sense also as the vertical strings gets longer that the tension needs to be higher for same "bounciness".. I string my More+87 at 31lbs x 28.5 lbs but had problems with BG80 just breaking almost once per set played ;-( so I switched to BG88ti which is better suited for high tension.. BTW when using std ISO-head rackets I don't usually go higher than about 26x24lbs Cheers, Twoobeer
