Does anyone have any statistics for who won the most titles this year? Or got into the most finals/semi-finals?

KDM and Gao Ling must be way up there, especially since they both play in two events.

But the IBF must take other factors into account don't they? Zhang Ning might be a favorite because she has been around for so long and to achieve what she has at her age is even more remarkable.

    Or Lin Dan maybe?

Let's discuss that in December. We still have China Open, Singapore Open, Indonesia Open (oh and 2* Chinese Taipei Open) left... Things might look different after those tournaments!

if Lin had done better in the Olympics, it would be hard to argue against having him as the player of the year.

he has won 7 individual tourneys in the past year (4 for 2004) and also #1 singles for the TC. the biggest flop was the Olympics.

if he continue doing well in the next 3 important tourneys, he will be a very likely candidate imho.

How old is Zhang Ning? All the Korean MD players (KDM, HTK, LDS, and YYS) are all 29-30 yrs of age now I think. I doubt they would award her based on her age. As good as she is, it only means there were no better younger players, in or near their prime, around to beat her :p.

I'm Taufik's fan. But I doubt he will get it, he has got some attitude problem at times. A classic example is at the Thomas Cup Final 2002.

I feel Kim Dong Moon will get it this time. If I ain't wrong, he has won it once.

Twice, once by himself, second with Ra Kyung Min. If he wins it this year, it'll be an unprecedented treble. That'll put him in the hall of fame for good!

i'd have to put my vote with kdm. he has been such a consistantly dominant player in both of his eventsl; him and ra dominated the mxed for the last year and him and ha haven't done too bad either (*cough olympics).

If not kdm i hope dan lin takes it.

another month has passed with more results.

the more i think about it. the more i think Zhang Ning deserves the title this year. she plays with such authority over her opponents in every game, very few players in the circuit right now can boast such consistency as Zhang Ning.

her biggest competition for the title is Lin Dan, who also shows amazing consistency in his ability to win competition. 3 in a row in Europe and China plus his performance since the beginning of the year is something that should also be recorded firmly in the history book.

Yes Kwun lets include the results from the Scottish Open  It's good you are taking an interest in the smaller tournaments.

I hate it here, I wish we could have some quality players to watch

Where are the statistitians when we need them, for factual references only

Ronaldinho won it. Second was Henry, third Shevchenko.
    Eh?. :)

I think Lin Dan should win it by the looks of it, his early year form was fantastic to say the least, but the fade towards the end - will it affect his chances? After all, best players don't fade, they just take a short break, if you know what I mean.

Last year's winners were simply titans in their event, winning consecutive victories all the way and having just about nobody to really put them to the test.

I think it is decided around mid-january only...

Anyway, my bet is still on Zhang Ning! :D

(Lin Dan's failure in the Olympics will probably cost him the award, plus the fact that he is young and will have many other occasions to win it)
