YOUNG STARTER
She left home at the age of 12 in order to train full-time, and now that she is the 'elder stateswoman' of the Chinese team, she takes on the responsibility of being a role model. She says her role is "to be an older sister to the younger players and teach them things in life."

Despite being such a highly ranked player in international badminton, Athens will be her first Olympic competition. (NBC Olympics 06/07/04)
