LD talked about his withdrawals and 2011 planning
LD talked about his withdrawals in the last 3 SS late 2010 and early 2011 and his planning in 2011.
1. about withdrawals:
" ... every player has injury problems, my withdrawal was to avoid wrosening of my injury situation. I didn't say I categorically absolutely could not play, but as a professional player, you should take care of your career lifespan, therefore sometimes you need to sacrify some competitions. I felt regret about that, yet I wish I could save my best form for more important competitions."
2. about WR#1:
" ... let the youngsters fight for it, I would just better cover them."
anyone better in Chinese and translation could try to translate the whole story from the link above.

1. LD is telling the truth about saving his best form for more important tournaments.............but those injury things, just excuses !
2. Chn is trying to send a maximum number of MS players as possible, so I think the plan is to let the younger ones to stay as high as possible in WR and LD will just staying along and 'helps' when he is needed. As for LD himself, he has no fear to anyone, he just can adjusts his own WR when ever he wants.........when the time comes.

Lin Dan is good, he doesn't get lee yong Bo or the china ba involved
Either way we know he was told to do so and being a soildier its hard to disobey orders
I salute him

He may be having some kind of injury (many players carry injuries eg. Teo Ks), or maybe he is aging rapidly, his body condition reminded me
of the same thing happening to Hartono when coming out of retirement to play in 1981 and 1982 for the last time or Zhao in his final days in 1992 and 93.

i think when players reach a certain age they take a longer time to recover from injuries and also
from intense competition.See how Chen Jin is faring now.LD is probably good at avoiding serious injuries maybe by not aggravating
minor ones. Gade is one who knows how not to injure himself , Taufik too by controlling their playing eg.giving up with a blister on the foot.
Even young players suffer from serious injuries ,Msia players like Hoon, Goh, Teo KS etc have been out several times with knee injuries.
i think this term "injury" is subjective and no doctor would be able to diagnose it, its whether the player thinks its worth the risk or whether
there is little to gain and a lot to lose.
You seldom see LD doing his signature dives anymore and he has to beat opponents over 3 sets.
Hartono and Hendrawan both won the world championships when nearing 30 or so, but they would not have done so
if they had injured themselves previously.

Probably Lin Dan just wants his opponents to think that way or get caught off guard because the fact is, he is all too focused for the London
...giving up w a blistered foot is probably helpful for the ''been there, done that'' guys like Taufik, save their energy for another day and another fight. Whereas, for the ''other'' guys, they'll be wrongly branded as lacking the mental strength to tough it out and ultimately came up on top. Well, I trust the ''never say die'' attitude applies for some but not all.

certainly another possibility if one think suspects that it is more mind games and ploys .
I personally would believe the "preservation" angle, to survive intact in order to achieve the ultimate goal.
but it may not work if the next echelon like Simon Santoso know how to play their cards right by 2012.

That means more tournaments than year 2010 for him
or enough tournaments for London qualification
Either way we will see more of him in tournaments and
it's good news for the fans

Remember that Taufik won his Olympic gold despite of being unseeded. While LD was the dominant force and out in the first round.
That left a deep impression on the CHN team. The idea of managing participation took root since then.

He still needs side winger, the more the better

Next echelon? I'm not sure what you meant but hierarchically speaking, LD, LCW...etc shouldn't be too worried about it. What they should be worried are the unforeseen upcoming players who springs from out of nowhere OR the late bloomers BECAUSE they are not familiar with their game or has taken for granted that they are the ''here and now'' rivals they failed to acknowledge or RESPECT!

You mean like the sudden presence of kenichi tago during all england 2010,
suddenly sprung into final and beating 2 top Chinese ms?

CHN is hoping to have 2 or 3 of their Mens Singles to be placed in the Top 4 seeds
CHN is hoping to have 2 or 3 of their Mens Singles to be placed in the Top 4 seeds. Why? They do not want to face each other earlier than the Semi-Finals round.
And they know that their seedings depend on their World Rankings.
It would be terrible if LD is unseeded and drawn to face Chen Jin in Round 1.
