Zhao quite rightly is spoken of very highly in this forum -can anyone tell me his career record against yang yang whom I believe could have been the better player based on what I know about major titles won and respective records against other contemporary greats such as morten frost and icuk sugiarto? (i am willing to stand corrected) the games I am aware of are 1987 world cup zhao wins 6-15 15-2 15-12 1988 world cup yang wins 15-5 15-6 1989 world cup yang wins 15-9 7-15 18-13 1990 asian games zhao wins 15-10 15-11 any additional information would be appreciated -thank you
thanks for the link cooler-I can only find career titles not head to heads but I`m still looking, more ideas welcome unless I`m missing something
This guy is my all time favourite player but I don't know very much about him. Such as what racquet he used, who he beat, etc. Looked around the forum and only found snippets of information. I have a video of him in the Barcelona Olympics against Darren Hall of England but thats all I have (what racquet did he use then?)... if anyone has any other vids/info please let me know. I think he's style/technique is simply amazing, he's footwork is one of the best I've seen not to mention THAT jump smash!!! How would he compare to modern players like Lin Dan/Chen Hong?
found a list of tournaments hes won by just making a search on google with his name. http://www.yangyang-rg.com/zhao.htm seems like he uses yang yang rackets
thanks james, I've seen that as well, but didn't he start using yang yang because he works for them? I think he used to be sponsored by yonex but not sure what racquets he used. A lot of people say he is deceptive but I've not seen his deceptive shots... was wondering is someone could tell me what deceptive shots he played...
A great example of him being right on is the All England 1990 where he totally destroyed Joko Suprianto. The other match is the 1985 All England against Morten Frost. This a great display of him attacking the master of defence.Lots of split second shot delay was his forte and to boot he was quite tall making his smashes steeper and his reach just ridiculous when trying to catch him off guard with clears.Alot of players said he was the most difficult to play as he held each shot to the last split second. He was most famous for his xcourt net shots because of his reach.
I think he is one of the most deceptive players ever. Almost impossible to beat him when in form but he could be so erratic that he could lose to a much lower-ranked player on his off-day and leave all of us bewildered.
He can change his shots the last mini-second catching his opponents off-guard so many times even against legend players like Morten and Liem.
yeah, everyone keeps telling me this, such a shame theres no badminton DVDs of him around. Talking o DVDs I'm going to Hong Kong over xmas was wondering i any one knows where to get badminton DVDs?
I watched 5 of his matches from Han's DVDs - Joko, Alan, Mrost, Liem and Sidek. All 5 matches are excellent. I believe he shipped DVD's to London also. http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12650

I have bought at least 50 DVD's from Han. I can't remember exactly which years. Joko - ?? All England final, Sidek - ?? Thomas Cup, Alan - ?? World Champion, Liem and Mrost - ?? All England. If you e-mail Han <han_cheong@yahoo.com>, he should be able to tell you which DVDs contain Zhao's matches. And sometimes if he is in a good mood, he may even take special orders like putting all Zhao's matches into 2 or 3 DVD's.
Zhao is in none of those! you have to go back to 1985 to 1992 Oh and forget about 1986 as well. He was supposed to be recovering from pneumonia that time which kept him out of the 1985 world champs
