    Hi,
I'm a fan of Prakash Padukone, and am looking for records of his international career. Can anyone help? Also, is there any of you who have played with/ against him, or know any interesting anecdotes?
    Dave:p

Do you mean the great Prakash playing in the early 1980's? I remember watching him play Han Jian long time ago, and he made Han running all over the court and everything looked so easy for him.

Yes, that Prakash who beat Han Jian 15-0 first game in the World Cup final. Were you watching that match at the venue? Do you have any recollections of that match?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Though I've not been lucky to see lot of his matches, but have read and heard a lot... :) I've seen him giving training to his youngest daughter a couple of times. If u visit KBA sometime around 3-5pm, i think he's there... He runs a sports center named Prakash Padukone's badminton academy in bangalore. It seems all the top indian shuttlers including Gopichand, Aparna are trained at this place...

yet to get some his videos...

Too bad I was very young at that time watching the match on TV. I remebered he was ranked world #2 at that time, and Morten Frost was #1. I think Han (Han Cheong, not Han Jian :D ) has a set of DVDs featuring Prakash, Morten and 2 other top players.

Hey, thanks. Nice of you. Are you in touch with any of the other top players of the 80's? And do you have Han Jian's e-mail id?
    You still play?

I remember two matches featuring Prakash, one against Liem Swie King and the other against Han Jian. He thrashed Swie King 15-2, 15-10 in 1980 All-England Final.

One year later, he beat Han Jian in World Cup in KL 15-0, 17-14. And this comes from a stroke player who hardly ever smashes!! Impressive.

    Hartono - Padukone's Idol

Here's Prakash Padukone in conversation with Shekhar Gupta:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbHyPCd8vPg

    Padukone must be 53 now.
It's amazing how fit he looks even today :)

In the interview, he recalls playing against Rudy Hartono in 1971 at the Bombay Gymkhana in Mumbai.

Padukone was just 15 and full of dreams... while Hartono, at 22, had already won the All England Open four times.

Of course, Hartono won it 15-5, 15-3 :p

    Says Padukone:
"I think he (Hartono) is the greatest badminton player the world has ever produced. I consider him as my idol."
