On a world scale, ranking all sports in terms of popularity on a global scale.

It's obvious Soccer is the most popular sport.

I've heard maybe badminton is 2nd, or 3rd most popular in the world?

    Do any of you know?

I think Cricket might be the 2nd most popular behind soccer.

    What do you guys think?

How popular is our favorite sport of badminton???

I would think basketball might be a bit more popular than cricket. Swimming or running maybe?

it really depends what country you are talking about. In UK football is first, then rubby or cricket. Badminton isnt as popular as ot should be.

On a world scale i dont think it is 2nd as badminton is not equally liked all over the world as football, basketball are. It is definately in top 10 but dont think it is 2nd. I think more people like tennis due to more coverage.

Anyway thats just what i think, badminton should be NO. 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I we take "most popular" to mean having the largest audience, it's Formula 1 racing, surprisingly enough! It's the world's biggest sport, audience-wise.

I really have to doubt your source on that one Mag. As much of a soccer non-fan as I am, it seems to me that soccer is the clear cut winner.

One "world's most" record that is attributable to F-1 is world's most highly paid athlete - it's driver Michael Schumacher

What abt A-Rod! He got 256 million as transfer fees. When Jordan was there he was getting paid the most.

How much does schumi get withought endorsments.

We should understand that baddy is easily the most played indoor sport.

When it comes to which is the second most popular sport i might say F-1.But no. of plp who watch is more than no of plp who actually do carting or something with racing is easily countable.

So i guess i would say basketball or badminton as the 2 most played sport on this planet. There is a badminton player in the next 5 guys you meet.

My verdict is Withought Jordan basketball would have never been No.2. baddy would have won that contest easily.

Sorry, some clarification is called for here:

I meant that Formula 1 racing is the biggest sport in terms of audience PER EVENT, of course...

I strongly doubt Cricket is 2nd most popular sport in the world. It would still lose out to sports like tennis and basketball

    Some more thoughts.

In terms of participation, there is a sport far more popular than soccer, I would guess, and that is BICYCLING. Think about it. There must be heaps more cyclists than soccer players.

Cricket is very big, because of Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, English, Australians, Americans (increasingly popular there apparently)

Of course, badminton is very popular because of the number of players in Asia.

I guess it comes down to how you define 'sport' and how you assess poularity.
