I live north of the river and in need of a good racquet stringer who is experienced enough not to break my racquets.

I tend to use 26-27lb tension on my MP100,99 and Ti10.

I've tried Gefen Sports but they strung my racquets at less than what I specified - by as much as 1-2 lbs less.

I've also tried United Sports but they broke my racquet (good condition) on 2 occasions.

Does any one know of any good stringers? Or should I invest in a machine and do it myself?

funny you said that, I came across his website tonight and called him a few hours ago. He's agreed to string my racquet for me tomorrow, while I wait and at the tension I require 26/27lbs. The only problem is that he's a little far for me.

But thanks for that neil, have you had racquets strung by him before?

No. No experience of his work. I've just seen mention of him in various places.

I had a cab20ms restrung by Sam Chan on a 'while you wait' service. Needless to say, the stringing was top level, as well as good value.

I had the racket strung with BG-80 @ 20 lb main x 21 lb cross. He can also string in much higher tensions as he has previously been an official stringer for world class pros at various tournaments worldwide.

It took me over an hour to travel to his place, but most of the sportshops' stringing services in my area were mediocre in comparison, so it was well worth the journey.

Yes, he strung two racquets for me and it took me about 45mins to get to his place. He is like you say very professional. He strung my MP100 at 27lb and Carbonex 20 at 26lb within an hour.

It was quite far for me as I live in north london but certainly worthwhile. Jun_W, where do you play? I got back into badminton a few months ago now and looking to play a little more.

I play with a group at the Waterfront leisure centre during weekends, although its not a formal club. The leisure centre is in Greenwich, South East London. I also play at (formal) open club sessions, at the same place, during weekday evenings. If you're willing to travel to the Greenwich area, there are also a couple other leisure centres that hold open club sessions in the evenings. Let me know me if you're interested, and I can provide more details.

    What were the prices like?
    I guess "while-u-wait" costs extra.

I supplied my own string, and labour-only cost was £12 for the "while-you-wait" service. He strung the racket in about 30 minutes.

mail order stringing usually cost more than actually going to the stringer because of postage cost

If you take it into the place where I get mine done the guy only charges you £6 if you bring your own string

I would say that Sam is one of the best stringers I know... not many stringers are confident enough to string racquets (in front of the customer) at 27lb tension. I would definitely recommend him.

I used to play at a school called george green??? which is in Island Garden area but it is quite far for me to travel now.

Just out of interest what is the standard like? I have thought about moving to the docklands area, if I ever get round to doing that I will let you know as I'd be more than up for a game or two...

Btw, just came home from watching England Vs Germany, even got a signature from Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms! :D

And the scenery is a lot nicer on that journey than going through London on a bus

    Good stringers

Hi I've found some good stringers in Basildon, I don't know if that is to far but if you give them warning I'm sure they would do it whilst you wait. It's a specialist racket shop with two machines and two stringers. One of which is the head stringer at Wimbledon and is a Master Racket Technician (MRT) not many of them about in the UK. They do high tensions but they don't like doing high tensions with Micro Power it breaks to easily on the edges at high tensions, their preferred string is BG65Ti. They are open 7 days a week telephone no. 01268 520600 I found them very helpful and knowledgable.
