a reporter spotted Tang in the China Open this week. Tang has retired from coaching the national team, now his official status is "consultant" to the national team.

he has been resting these days. he claims that the rest is doing him good and he feels much healthier than before. he is also more relaxed.

he commented about the lost in Athens. he says the coaches also has fault in their lost.

him taking over MD puts a lot of pressure on him for 2 yrs. he says the pressure was too immense for him and his heart to bear. he ended up having to go to the hospital to recover from it.

he used to feel that while family is important, career is more important. but he thinks it is time to change that, it is time for him to live a family oriented life. he is 62, he has been with badminton enough.

"of course, i will suffer if i don't have badminton. badminton is like my life, i cannot leave badminton, if i leave, my life will be very bland."

It's extraordinary that after so many years in badminton - experiencing the happy and not so happy moments, still so passionate about the game. I think he should truly be called a badminton fanatic. His contribution to badminton is great, not only as player but also in the area of coaching.

it has happened before, and many countries has made mistakes like this too.

in 1955, the US accused Jet Propulsion Lab co-founder Qian Xuesen as a communist and deported him back to China. in this case, no evidence was ever found.

Qian is a total genius and pioneer in rocket science in the US. after he went back to China, he accelerated the Chinese space program and launched China into space.

Tang Xinhu Tong Sin fu, I call him Thing Hian Hiouw his original name in INA registration papers. That's why he was called the Thing because those who played against him in the late 50s junior circuit knew his name.

Not much to see but at least we get a glimpse of the slick moving style of Hou Jia Chiang and the racquet skills of Tang.

interesting but known news that TXH was instructed to lose to his opponent in the 2nd MS event in the 1963 "Xin Hing Games" that was held in Jakarta. it was to give INA face. this was documented in HJC's memoir.

now also confirmed by TXH himself.

thanks for sharing. nice to see some rare footage of the legends in action.

if you go to 00:40 in the video, the commentator specifically says "Xin Yin Hui", which is the "Xing Hing" Games i mentioned above, which happened in November 1963. the details matches exactly what HJC says in his memoir.

Good thing many will not watch this clip otherwise the accusations of fixing, disrepute, arrogance, cheating etc. will start flying.

Hopefully even more will not be able to decipher the word "rang'.

Xin Yin Hui is called Games of the New Emerging Forces (GANEFO), you can take a look at it in the Wikipedia entry:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GANEFO

it was setup as an alternative Olympics. it wasn't very successful an event.
