hello! as the title states, I'm indeed from Alaska...I dont get to play nearly as much as probably EVERYONE else in here, but I have been playing fairly consistantly since high school...but you know, breaks here and there and now days only having one night a week to play, I'm not nearly as good as I could be. but oh well! I love the game! and thats what matters, right? :D

Welcome to the BadmintonForum family, SeelenlanD ... I think you're the first member from Alaska on the forum, but I could be wrong! :D

How's the competition level up in Alaska?

We should email the Antarctic science station and ask them if they play? Then we'll have the whole planet!

wow! I didnt expect all this interest! haha but theres quite a few of us that play, but really only a few that are competitive...theres more players in Fairbanks I think than here in town, but they have more nights they can play than we do..but a few of the guys did tournaments in the states, Seattle mainly and always seemed to place in the top 5 anyways in B level competition. so I definatly get a work out! but overall it doesnt seem as popular as it was just a few years ago...*shrugs shoulders* I really dont know why. but thanks for the welcome and expect to see more of me on here! :)

oh hell..anywhere! I've lived here for 23 of my 26 years, so you can understand where I'm coming from? lol but on the other hand I'm so acclimated to the climate here it would have to be like Washington, Oregon, some northern state of some sort. they all have way more badminton than I do here in Anchorage. but thats something I'll do in a few years.

Hong Kong needs a lot of English teachers to teach English as a second language. Airfare, apartment with cost of living allowance are provided in addition to good starting salary.

You're right SeelanIanD, there are more players in Fairbanks! Fairbanks is definately the hot spot for Alaska badminton. The Fairbanksans practice 6-7 days a week! Want good badminton? Go to Fairbanks.

Just wonder whether our friend from Alaska is still around. He last posted in late 2004. Has he gone to some warmer climes where there are lots more badminton?

And also our friend Redkingjoe from Hong Kong?

when the best happens in alaska, where are looking for your next practice session

    Hey guys,

Im from fairbanks alaska too, the only OTHER reason i chose fairbanks to do my masters was badminton. fairbnanksans have been practicing like hell making most of the news in all possible tournaments around united states. although we have a new coach who is currently ranked top in the US rankings list, new kids are fast learning up to make a name very soon. A small information for any other players who are really really interested to practice with the best in the USA and play 7 days a week in an awesome place.

I would strongly recommend badminton fanatics who feel they dont have proper coaching (there are very few here who play badminton but they are among the best you can get in usa) or not getting enough challenge or even not able to match the price, to come to fairbanks in the summer to enjoy the beautiful summer and the best coaching for the least cost. you could even email us in advance to arrange for accomodation.

    Regards
