10 December 2004 Last night's qualifying rounds in the Yonex Irish International Championships at the National Badminton Centre, Lisburn failed to produce any local wins with 17-year-old Alex Sim of Lisburn's Alpha club putting in the best performance taking the first set 15-13 before going down to European Junior finalist Rune Ulsing of Denmark.

His young Alpha clubmate Scott Burnside also played well against Welsh international Paul LeTocq losing after two close sets and Leinster's Lee Evans lost out in a close third set to Lionel Warnotte of Belgium.
