Gong Ruina. And I'm sorry to all Gong fans but she looks positively slutty. That's the problem with athletes when they dress up, I suppose. You're so used to seeing them "natural" that when they go fuss and feathers, they just look "wrong" (remember that Camilla Martin photo?).
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. For this particular beholder, she looks pretty trashy. The clubber look is so not her style. Here's something that brings out the radiance in her better.
I think there's some recent news reports on gong ruina's intention to go into showbiz after she retires next year, can anyone confirm on this?
Does anybody know for what purpose those pictures were taken? I think the pictures are a little sad, in the same way that the Camilla Martin or Kim/Ha fashion shots were a bit sad. Or rather, it is sad that somebody sees a need for them. Gong Ruina is a top class athlete in her own right. How she looks is irrelevant. Well, it should be anyway. But like I said, I don't know the story behind these photos.
For your interest Mag, these came from a personal photo spread, known as xie3 zhen1 ji2 in Mandarin. It seems superfluous to mention the Chinese name but the reason I'm doing so is because photos that are taken for this purpose tend, more often than not, to be rather risque in nature. This, perhaps, accounts for the rather sexy or "clubber" image that some of our posters have noted. When first conceived, the Chinese term referred exclusively to a collection of Playboy-style shots and were a means for aspiring actresses to up their popularity. While it has recently morphed to include general shots for a picture spread, the photos continue to run a little on the suggestive side. I'm not sure if there is an English equivalent for this though. Please let me know if it does exists.
I say kill the makeup artist....and the stylist....and maybe the photographer as well... the makeup artist did a very bad job, especially on the last pic at the top, face too shiney... the hair might have been ok if the makeup was better, but it could be better darn photographer needs to go back to school...
