what racket is Wang Chen using? does SOTX make oval rackets?

i was curious about it when i was watching the CO videos. i couldn't see it clearly but i suspect it may be a cab20.

They do quite a few Oval rackets, but most of their rackets are brightly coloured. I cant see any writing on the side, and the cone is taped over.....seems a bit fishy!

Will have a look at the catalogue later.

SOTX do have oval rackets, at least in the STB series (i.e. STB 8080+). Cab20? I really don't think so. I think Wang Chen is offically signed contract with SOTX, for a big even like C.O. I am sure she needs to present SOTX. ;)

hahaha, i didnt look closely on this one and i myself dunno much about sotx rackets. From the enlargement pic, the overgrip went up to cover the cone as well.

But it has brightly coloured writing on the frame/shaft. Also has a grey cone shaft (although cone obscured on this photo). Anyone has any other pictures of her?

I remember she used an iso head racket when sponsered by gosen.

I too thought the frame/shaft looked lavender, but is difficult to tell. Would need more recent pictures.

Still looking for the catalogue to check.

That's very true. I just listed it as an example about "black oval racket". I doubt Wang Chen will use 8080+, as it should be way too flexable for her. :p

I think she may not use the commecial model of SOXT racquet. That racquet should be made just for her, use top material and do some modification from the standard model like 8080+ or cab20.

I think u might be right.

However, I don't understand why SOTX does such approach. I mean, usually, the player(s) promote the top line model(s), which easily available in the commercial market, which boost up the sales. If the special model is made for the only person in the world, isn't that a drag back in promotion?

In the racquet area, player has more power in decision, I think. Like Lin Dan, Yonex give him some new model to try, for example, he like one new model , then change the racquet, change or not change is decided by players. It's not easy to change racquet for lot of players using some model for 10 years. In SOXT case, the player pay more attention on getting good performance than promotion for products. It's my opinion.

    1. I agree. However, isn't that make more sense to provide the players with the models available to the public? For example, Yonex gives all the top players models like MP99, AT800, AT700, etc. I don't see any one of them hold "1 and the only 1 in the world" model.

    2. I don't agree. Of course, player wants to perform. However, business is meant to be "boost up sales ---> generate profit". Once the contract is signed, the player is get paid, and s/he is responsible to promote products.

OMG, Wang Chen dressed like a primary school student taking PE lesson, probably SOTX does not care about selling badminton clothes... :)

    1. First, Professional MP99, AT700 is different from commercial ones. "1 and only 1" means small modification is made according to top players' habit. At the same time lot of professional players donot need that. In general, for sponsor, he can make modified MP99 for certain top player and disclaim this player use MP99. It's not a conflict.

    2. Probably you are right.
