    Hi all,

My name is Yuval, I am 26 year old from Israel.
I played for short while when I was younger and now got back to playing for about 3 month by now.
I guess I'm quite a beginner although I think I have few good moves.
It's great to see there is a big badminton community out there because in Israel the sport is extremely unpopular and I barely found a place to play :crying:

    ps
Anyone else here from Israel ?

    Bye

Indeed I have a feeling I'm the only one here from Israel :D
The lack of popularity of the sport here is really sad :crying: , wherever I go and tell people I play badminton I get same lame reactions like "the strange game with the feathers? isn't it's slow as hell?, etc ...."

well, as I said I first played many years ago when it was introduced in the community gym where I live, I played for about a year and then stopped

Recently on a vist of my family in Canada I came acorss a cheap racquet and decided to buy it just for fun. then when I got back here I looked for where to play and I'm back playing, I hope it will last more now .....

I thought he meant the version of the rackets sold, like CN for china, SP for singapore, TH for thailand, TW for taiwan, etc, for i guess "IS" is for Israel??? Not sure ;)

There are special passes that will allow one to travel to the Holy Land for the purpose of a pilgrimage only, provided it is done using the correct channels aka through the church and authorised parties. Malaysians have been known to have visited Israel. My mother told of her cell group and church friends who had made visits to Israel. So it is possible, but I think there's a catch to it - they will arrange, provide for, but will not be responsible if one gets caught in any of the conflicts there. I don't know.

My colleague's father-in-law who made a transit there once when he was still part of the Malaysian diplomatic team, did his afternoon prayer at the Al-Aqsa Mosque or "Dome of Rock". It was quite an experience, he said, saying that it is really dangerous to do so and the Israeli soldiers who allowed him in gave him a limited time. When told to leave, he followed as told, not wanting problems as Jerusalem was in the middle of the Intifada back then and it wasn't safe.

Wops, this is supposed to be a thread about Yuval!

Welcome to BF/BC Yuval. I surely hope that you enjoy it here and be one of the beacons of badminton there, hoping that peace is to come through sports like badminton.

    All the best. :)

When it comes to European football, it's quite normal to hear about clubs such as Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Maccabi Haifa. Some talented players I know of is Yossi Benayoun, currently playing for Racing Santander if I'm not wrong as well as the current player for Bolton Wanderers, Tal Ben Haim. So was former Red, Ronnie Rosenthal.

    How about badminton Yuval?
    Any up and coming players?

Not really, as I said it is not popular enough here for Israel to produce any international level player. Hopefully in the future ....
I know of a player (former national champ.) who wishes to go to Beijin 2008. Anyway I don't think Taufik should start worrying :D

I try to promote badminton when I can, with my VERY limited power. I contacted TV sport magazine here to cover badminton. I opened online community for badminton in Israel, but no one is joining :crying: , here is a link if someone wants: http://communa.tapuz.co.il/badminton (in Hebrew of course). and finally, I keep telling everyone I meet how great is badminton :)
(so far with no much affect I might add  )
Any other ideas on how to promote badminton ? (or should this go as a new thread maybe in different place ?)
