Wake up people! Bbn has expressed interest in starting a badminton magazine and no one is expressing interest in the venture. He needs to know there is a market for a magazine and what we would like to see in it. I suggest that the magazine be international in nature so it doesn't turn off readers by focussing too much on specific areas. That doesn't mean it can't have stories from around the world on a variety of people. There are thousands of great stories out there we just need someone to uncover them. You call yourselves fanatics? Well let's see it! You mean to tell me you can't spare a few dollars a month on a sport you "love" after buying your $250 Yonex Ti? Come on, let us know what you would spend money on to read about. Do it! now!
thanks MarkM, yes, i think it is a great thing that Bbn is doing if he decides to go ahead with it. and we in this forum should give him as much hand as possible. potentially, BC and Bbn can cooperate on things like coverage and co-advertising. badminton is a very popular sport, but it is seriously lacking exposure. i can go out to a newstand and find magazines on all sorts of things, but none for badminton. a magazine will make a huge difference to the sport. so please support Bbn on this.
Hi everyone. If anyone is interested, I could provide with some topics for such a badminton magazine. I'm sure that there is plenty to say about badminton, in many different ways. Special profiles, tournaments coverage, etc.. As a badminton specialised journalist, I could give you hints about what to write about ! Just let me know how I can help.. and .. good luck !
Thanks Mark, Kwun and Bam Bam, There is no reason to press the panic button. I will post another message in Worldbadminton as Fan to gauge response. I think response is weak because there is a small audience in N America as stated by Don and also because it is a fact that most players do not want to read lenghty articles, they rather experience playing and maybe discuss briefly. As to resources, there is a lot of material in the Chinese medium in Msia and China that is not accessible to a lot of people plus a lot of talkative players and explayers in Msia to air their views. Of course the magazine must have a global reach to get a minimum readership and should have sections devoted to Europe, N America and Asia.by contributors.I am not too confident about adverts, therefore the high indicative price.
I would support the idea of lengthy articles. Especially those concentrating on technique. Lots of pictures showing correct and incorrect technique. Lines drawn through pictures of people to demonstrate centre of balance, arm movement. This sort of educational material is difficult to find either in English or Chinese. Would it be difficult to have enough material for a monthly production? Bi-monthly?
