KUALA LUMPUR: National badminton chief coach Yap Kim Hock made clear the targets for his team to achieve in 2006 in a briefing with the players and coaches before a training session at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara here yesterday.

He told them that their goals were to win three gold medals in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games (March) and one gold in the Doha Asian Games (December).

“It is better that they know what were expected from them from the start. It is also clear to Misbun and Li Mao on who they have to take charge,†said Kim Hock.

Misbun will have Mohd Hafiz Hashim and Kuan Beng Hong under his charge.

The others, including national number one Lee Chong Wei, will train under Li Mao.

“We have also decided to place (women's singles player Wong) Mew Choo under the charge of Li Mao. This is the set-up I will recommend to the coaching and training committee.

“The coaches will be responsible for their players. But they can work together and swap players whenever there is a need to do so.

“There is bound to be competition by splitting the men's singles players into two groups but the fact remain that everyone has to work together.â€

National trainee Hazwan Jamaluddin, who is 19, will go to the Project 2010-12 Squad. Veteran Mohd Roslin Hashim will no longer train with the national players and he will return to Nusa Mahsuri.

The women's doubles players – Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty, Fong Chew Yen-See Phui Leng and Ooi Sock Ai-Mooi Hing Yau – will continue to train under Cheah Soon Kit.

However, Kim Hock has yet to finalise the coaches' and players' set-up for the women's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles.
