it is mixed doubles. they had a internal match in the team and Xia was partnered with a young player while Chen Hong was partnered with Zhang Yawen. Xia & partner got surprisingly third place.

however, LiYB was quick to deny the rumors that they will be switching event. but he did mention that men's singles players are suitable to play mixed as they have the court coverage ability.

as for Xia's comment, he is as usual diplomatic and says he will do whatever the team asks him to.

It's kind of weird if they really do that, especially both XXZ and Chen Hong have strong personalities in games...........

Man, I just can't think of the pictures!!

If this is the only way to extend Xia's career, I will be more than happy to see it does happen. ;)

When I first read the thread title, I thought they were going to partner each other to play double.. That would be interesting...:)

It can be tiring playing in singles... partnering in a mixD or a mensD can actually extend the players contribution to the team. If not.. another way out is to retire.

Zhao Jian Hua played mixed in the 1993 Sudirman Cup. Sometimes would misjudge shuttles landing in the tramlines. But the partnership was not strong in any case.

Many ppl pointed out, play with the close ones will result into endless argument - and the girls win the argument 99.9%. Don't want to see Chen kneeing outside Gao's room. :D

I think it would be an quite interesting proposition to see Xia play mixed, especially since his singles days are coming to an end. The WC 2005 will most probably be his last hurrah. It's quite sad actually to see the progression towards the end of the career of arguably one of the best men's singles players of the past four or five years. It's extraordinary to think that less than 2 years ago he was the world's best and world champion and now second-rate on the Chinese squad.

    Go Xuanze!

It is a great plan from LYB.
We see that China's XD performce not good lately.
    There are 2 pairs : Zhang/Gao and Chen/Zhao.
Zhang/Gao now are going down and Chen/Zhao is not better than Zhang/Gao.
Beside these 2 pairs, China has no more XD.

LYB set XXZ and CH to play XD with young ladies players. It means that LYB has set a step forward to prepare the future XD for China team.
