There are 23 cross strings! And looks like there is a bottom-to-top loop on the left side. Humm, this may be a single-piece string job.

Yup..most likely a single string job. However it can be done by using 2 strings as well. This method add some bounce to the shots.

I have heard that many female players in China team have their rackets strung by male players. :)

But I am not sure if she does it her own; it would be nice :)

They don't have a pro stringer for the team??? With the heavy load training each day, why not get a stringer do the job?

I think they do have their own stringers.. but once a while they do string their own rackets, its like a sense of ownership sometimes to string your own. And also they know what they like in terms of tension. Hands on is still better , so you will not have complains that the stringer did a bad job.
I do know some Malaysian nationals strings their own rackets when they are free or having traininng sometimes. But usually during competition they let the stringers do the job.

23 crosses, yes, but the extra cross is at the head isn't it. Through holes 6.

Maybe she was mis-hitting to much near the head and the mains needed some extra support :p

yes. i have the same thoughts as well. the only reason for stringing the top string is to prevent premature breakage of strings there.

however, aside from the Olympics SF match, in which she must have change 4 rackets, i seldom see her break any strings. in fact, the second pic i took was two day later than the first pic. and she seems to be using the same racket.

    23 cross string

My coach told me that that's for smash and most of chinese national player string like this. The higher hitting point, the faster the bird will fly straight down to court.

Funny. That's called "newbie" stringing over here. Newbies tend to break the strings at the top due to mishits.

But it has to be within the sweet spot ;) So, it should not make that much of difference in terms of smash power.

The pro-player have wrist skill to generate power even hitting is out of sweet spot. The higher hitting point, the shorter fly distant and less respone time for the opponent.

but hitting the sweet spot is still preferred. MD players can break the string if they hit too close to the frame. I dun think even pro can aim their hit outside the sweet spot accurately and consistently.
