is there a good way to increase the grip size without using many layers of overgrip?
More than 2 layers feels too soft for me and i think i'm loosing control and feel.
Is there some thin and hard overgrip available that doesn`t give that soft-rubber feeling?
    thank you

You could try using a underlayer of leather grip, but they are quite hard to get hold of. Or take your racket to a qualified stringer, they can usually re-mould your handle making the perfect size for you.

Best way I found was to put Varnish over the wood. Add layers of varnish to get desired size whitout getting your balance point deviate too much. Not only it is light, but it will protect the wood from towel grip glues

    Hi,
Are there any varnish you could recommand?
How to apply the varnish on the wood handle?
(Apply one layer at a time? How long should I let it dry up?)
I have no idea how it works.
    thanks!

if you can carefully apply a very clean and even layer of epoxy, it should also work.
then sand it down to the right size.

I agree its good idea to do it yourself if the racket is not very expensive, but i would rather let a professional do it it the racket is expensive. Since most newer rackets no longer made from wooden handles, doesnt cost very much for it to be done by an stringer. Dont want to risk and messup your precious racket :/

What I have done before is to use the wood veneer iron tape that is used to dress up the edges of particle board shelving. Just iron on the pieces and shave to fit with a utility knife. If you don't like it you can just remove the pieces.

Dragging this old thread out again, I am also ignorant of how the procedure works. I too want to increase from G4 to G3 (sometimes even G5 to G3).

Are there different types of wood varnish? Additionaly, are there some types of varnish which are lighter than others (to not increase the weight towards the handle). I would really appreciate it, if someone could share their expertise. :)
