I was just wondering what the motto of your coach is. My first coach always stood on the sideline when we were playing and shouted "Get to the birdie!!! You can get it!" So what do your coaches tell u all the time?
When I work with HS kids, these are what I say to them: (Note, all are either stolen or I heard it somewhere) - I won't ask you to do anything I can't do myself at least equally well or better. (British Royal Commando training. Or so I've seen on a History Channel program. Any active or ex-commandos who can confirm or deny this?) - Give me the work and I'll do my best to help you to be the best prepared player in the competition. (Same as above.) - All else equal, the most committed wins. (Not sure where I got this from, probably heard it from somewhere.) - The rally is not over until you see the shuttle bounces on the court, twice. (Dean Schoppe, US national player.) I'm probably going to steal Hendrawan's motto too. And this is what I tell myself as their coach: "When the players win, it's all to their credit. When they lose, it's my fault." I think that's a variation of a saying by a football(?) or may be baseball coach: "Players win matches, coaches lose matches."
A line that always stuck with me was from a movie called the program "Kill them all and let the paramedics sort it out ".Extreme I know but the message is to give it your all with no regrets.I always try to tell players I have coached to play hard but play smart and that is where the good technique along with strategy pays its biggest dividends. In doubles I try to tell them always play shots with your partners positioning in mind.
so it seems we have a UT fan[not trying to boast much but i can beat godlike bots 1 on 2].anyways my coach always says things like,"ya , what happend tired ..........continue"
my coach's motto was "practice perfect makes perfect" the point being if you practice sloppy you'll play like that ... so you have to do the best shots you can when you practice and every shot is important. also relates to effort - give 110% effort even though your only practicing.... especially because your practicing. because in the end... when playing your shots in the match not only will you be under real pressure - but usually require more effort - Solution is to train harder and under more pressure than what is required for those situations you'll face in the match.
Old miltary saying about a General who made his troops train hard "His drills are like bloodless battles, and his battles are like bloody drills" I'd settle for 100%
Well it's not really a motto ... ( kind of different from wedgewenis's motto ) Practice DOESN'T make perfect. PERFECT practice makes perfect
