    Hey ElNegros,

Welcome to BF! Do you know where exactly Global Village Vancouver is located? Perhaps we could suggest a gym/club near where you'll be staying. There's actually quite a few places around Vancouver and Lower Mainland to play but not many where you can just drop in and train. Click here: Vancouver Racquets Club to check out this wonderful club:).

    Hello BFers,

I'm planning to be in Vancouver on Saturday, Feb. 26th for the day but, only have a limited amount of free play time. Can anyone suggest a Drop-In session between 12NOON and 5pm in the central region or in Richmond that I might try. I hope to meet some of you for some games if possible.
    Thanks in advance.:)

dakguru: That time coincides with Brittania Comm Centre's time 1pm-5pm, but it's located in Vancouver, if you don't mind the commute. I'm not too familiar with Richmond baddy scene on Saturdays.

Global Village is in downtown, if I'm not mistaken, or thereabouts.

    Thanks, Wood_22_Chuck, for the suggestion.:)

I'll find out where Brittania Comm Centre is and give it a go. I wish I had more time so that I could stay overnight and perhaps try VRC, Collingwood, and other clubs. Perhaps, next time.;)

    Thanks for your answer

You can see my school on the map [IMG]
I saw that the VRC is not far away from global village. How is the level in this club? Do you have leagues?
what have i to do to train there?

    Thanks, Philipp

    Hey Philipp,

That could be deceiving... VRC is not far from D/T if you have a car:D. However, public transit may not run after a certain time if you intend on practicing into the late night. Calibre of players varies from newbies to provincial level players. On most nights, you could find intermediate to competitive tourney players. However, some of our best players only play sporadically... mainly on mixed ladders night (Thursdays) and some Sundays. If your level is really high, you won't have problems mixing it up and hanging out with them. However, the club can also be very cliquish with different groups playing on different nights, so it can be quite challenging to get games sometimes.

Please take your time to read more threads regarding VRC and other community drop-ins around D/T in the Canada West subforum. Good Luck!

    Ming

It's only if you play late into the night, that public transportation becomes a problem. Otherwise, public transportation is very accessible from where you are.

    There're direct busses to:

    1. ClearOne Badminton centre in Richmond.
    2. VRC, although you might have to walk a few blocks

In downtown, you're within walking distance to:

    1. Roundhouse Community Center (Monday nights)
    2. Coal Harbor Community Center (Wed nights).

With the friendliness of baddy players, I'm sure you'll have no problems getting a ride back into downtown, or to the nearest covenient bus stop.

    Good luck! :D

    Hey ElNegros,

I hope that you're still looking forward to check out VRC. From downtown skytrain station, take the skytrain to Main Street/Scienceworld station. Then take the no.3 (southbound) and drop off at 33rd Ave. The club is just a few blocks west from the Main St./33rd Ave intersection.

Here's a link of the transit system in Vancouver.

Good Luck! Hope to see you in August:).

Just wondering...to play at VRC as a visitor, do you need to sign in with a member? Is it still a tenner?

At this Clear One, do they have drop in sessions? If so, when and how busy/full does it get?

It's $7 if you have guest passes ... I have tons. Let me know if you need 'em. And yes, the member who signs in must be present in the club.

    ClearOne
Not sure. I think they have a website:

    http://www.clearonebadminton.com

You can check it out. For first-hand reports, I guess other BFers can respond. I've only been there once or twice.

    It's me again

    Hello

In a few weeks i'm in Vancouver. I found a club to play. I can practise with Ram Nayyar in Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club. Does someone knows something about this club?

I'm looking forward to practising in Vancouver!

It's a pretty expensive country club. With limited hours on badminton activities. Of course, it would be a tremendous honor to be invited to play there or even drop-in as only acknowledged competitive players get invited to 'boost' the playing calibre of the group. I think membership is around $10,000 per year (somebody correct me if I am wrong:confused: ). However, VRC has higher calibre of club players. Care to tell us more about yourself? Are you a competitive tournament player? National player?

    Hi Elnegros

The Vancouver Lawn and Tennis Club is a great place to play and practice. Getting an invitation fro Ram is a gret opportunity. From downtown where you are planning to stay is close proximity. Several of the Canadian top juniors train under Ram, so you will get a good training ground, as well provide a excellent exchange with them.

If you are here over the summer, I would suggest you try to find your way out to Richmond and drop in to ClearOne. Daryl Yung will be running several camps over the summer, and he has several very high level coaches helping him. Recently he has contracted a former Indonesian national player to coach some of the programs. That may also be an option for your training needs.

Keep us posted as your travel date get's nearer. I am sure you will be a good reason for a summer-start Vancouver BF meet!
