here are the better pics of ng wei that i took last year in hong kong. most of my pics were crap coz i only just bought my camera about 2 weeks before taking these pics and i wasn't familiar enough with the camera yet. i think this was some local hk grade competition and the hk national players were there.

The event was most likely "Hong Kong Open". There were HKBA umpires (wearing white jackets). :)

This tournament is the HK Annual badminton championships. Confusingly, it is described in Chinese as an 'Open' tournament. It is a local tournament and equivalent to the National badminton tournaments played in other countries.

Another funny criteria of this tournament is that you do not have to be a resident of HK to enter - being a member of the HK badminton association is the only requirement.

Nice pics, what was the equipment you were using?

What were the settings on the camera?

    Are the pictures cropped?

i stand corrected then :p after all, i was just a visitor in hk :D i was accompanying some friends who were playing in the competition and wasn't really sure what was going on. it did appear strange to me that so many national players were participating in what looked like a small time competition :p

the pic of ng wei defending the smash isn't cropped, the other 2 were cropped to remove empty space on the right of the pic. other than that i only did noise reduction, white balance correction and resizing.

i was sitting almost next to the net to take these pics. it was so much better than sitting in the stands :D all 3 pics were taken using nikon d70 with 50mm/1.4 lens, iso1000, 1/400s, f/2. i also tried using 85/1.8 and 70-200/2.8 but 85mm was too long from where i sat and the 70-200 wasn't quite fast enough to get 1/400s.

steady hands? i doubt it :p the pics are sharp coz the shutter speed was 1/400s and with a 50mm lens i only needed about 1/75s to avoid hand shake :D

good timing? for me it's more luck than skill :D only those 3 shots were good out of about 80 shots :p one day i hope it will be more skill than luck :D

Anyone is a fan of Ng Wei?? I really like this guy. He is cool!!! I think the way he walks shows that he is a very brave person, and it really shows when he plays. I watched his match in SG Open with Hafiz, and I was impressed by his strong mentality. No offence or anything, but I think Hafiz has much better technique. Even so, Ng Wei managed to catch up in the rubber set and even won the match!! OMG! He really is a fighter. Hope to see him again next time!! (and he kinda looks like Fu Haifeng from the front and REALLY looks like Cai Yun from the back!!)

really? I thought he looks like Shawn Yue, an actor from Hong Kong. He is really a fighter, he fought for every point when I saw him playing against Lin Dan two days ago but Lin Dan is just simply too good in other aspects.

Hahaha. Well, he only looks like Fu in a flash, but if you see Cai Yun's and his backs, they really look alike!! I always love to watch him play, first with Taufik in Sudirman Cup and then with Hafiz in SG Open. He didn't play that well though with Lin Dan in SG Open, but his fighting spirit always shows! Wishing Ng Wei the best!! He's the only player that I like who is not from China, btw. Hahaha.

Yep, nice pics. I guess Fu and him look alike from the back because of their hair? Lol.

Haha.. No... Cai is the one who looks like him from the back. Fu from the front. No wonder ppl say that the three of them are triplets. I've got no good pic of Cai and Ng to compare their backs. But I've got a good one for him and Fu. I believe it's because of their eyes.
