Hi i play badminton for my high school. Tryouts are about to begin and then the season starts. I know i will be on the team, and might be playing singles. My racquet strings just broke and i was thinking of trying sumthing new :D. First time i used Bg-65 it lasted a year. when that broke, i restrung with bg-65 again but it broke in only two months  . now im deciding whether to try bg-80, which is a neat string, but i doubt it will last me the season (two months, including five day practice schedule at three hours per practice) i've read the reviews on the string, and the general feeling is that bg 80 provides more repulsion and holds tension longer than 65. im willing to pay the extra price, but i don't want the string to break in the middle of a game :crying: .

if i choose bg-65... i will string at 22 lbs
if i choose bg-80... i will string at 21 lbs

    (I use MP-44)

I just strung my MP77 with BG 80 @ 23 lbs.... great smash power.... great control.... but yea with a schedule like yours, you might want to watch it.... perhaps try BG65Ti or BG75Ti if you are willing to go for the extra mile.... the 75Ti will last you.... suppose to be the best attack string from Yonex....

consider a second primary racquet as backup?
consider checking to ensure the stringer is not botching up the string job?
glance over all your grommets to make sure its not cutting the strings?
is it breaking in the same place all the time?

lots of reason why even bg65 is breaking very quickly, and it shouldn't be, atleast not at those tensions.

There's always pros and cons, but no perfect solution. Otherwise, u will only see everyone using 1 kind of string, the rest can't survive in the market. ;) BG65 is known for it's durability, and ok overall performance. However, if u want some boost in a particular field, the "special" ones usually lack of durability.

If u take BG80, do like "chickennoodle" said, check ur strings often, if it already appeared to be on the last breath, re-string it before it actually snaps. Or, keep a backup racket in bag. ;)

Hmm... if I'm not mistaken, BG-65 is a more durable string than BG-80 (since bg65 is thicker). I use BG80s myself, but I do have backup rackets with me... if string breakage is an issue (bigger than feel and repulsion), perhaps BG65 is more suitable for it's tougness?

Thanks for the advice guys, i really appreciate it. i think im goin to try bg-80 at 21bs tension and hope it lasts till may :D . i don't have enough money for a back up racquet so im stuck with my decision. if bg-80 doesn't suit me, i can always go back to reliable bg-65 :D .

anyone with first hand experience on how long their bg-80 strings lasted?

It greatly varies depend on each individual. Someone can break it in 2 days, someone can use it for almost 1 yr. Just don't expect it will last as long as BG65. ;)

I play mostly plastic because thats what my high school plays with. I find that feather birdies really disrupt my strings.

gaahh feels silly to decide between two good strings. i decided to read more about the bg80 strings and found out they break easier when playing with nylon birdies (anyone know why?). i guess ill just stick with bg-65 because i really don't know much about bg 70.

If you don't know much about BG70 you could try looking on the internet.
Maybe in some sort of badminton forum :D

    P.S.
I also recommend BG70 for plastic shuttles, from experience.
I have found nothing about BG70 to be worse than BG65
