I have just played in a new sports centre, and found the lights too bright. When I was attempting any overhead shots, I could hardly see the shuttle, making me missed quite often. I don't have any problem when I play outdoors with cloudly weather. My plastic lenses are a little bit blurred, but is it really the problem of my lenses? Or is it really the lights make the shuttle unseeable?

Sports centres are not really designed for badminton. The courts are used for a wide range of activities, and badminton is one of the few cases where direct overhead lighting is a problem.

Some places are better than others, but you will find this issue occurs to some extent at nearly all non-specialist badminton courts.

It also even occurs in purpose made courts. It is simply a problem you cannot escape. Light must come from somewhere, and for the most part it is from above.

Purpose made courts have them at the side, which helps, but it doesnt irradicate it.

However some courts can be worse than others. The worst position lights can be in suspended above the mid court, since when you look up to the shuttle at the in the rear court, your vision looks directly into the lights.

yes, it's quite a common problem. In one of gyms I play in, they are using spotlights directly hanging over the courts. you can't see anything for a few seconds after you looked into it while trying to hit a overhead shot.
however, a few of the players managed to take advantage of it by skillfully clearing the bird into the light on purpose. another reason why switching courts is needed.

Usually, strong lights with low ceiling is even worse of a problem. Too bad, I've been suffering enough from it... :crying:
