All teams are likely to only finalise players names in mid-May because that's when the individual entries are due. Whoever you are, I assume you're likely to be in the team since you're also under 19 (after viewing your profile!)? Will keep you posted if I hear anything concrete.

He's good alright...He almost beat the Australian No. 1 a month ago! I actually thought he was from Taiwan (not sure where/what my source is)...unfortunately I couldn't find any profile from the NZ Badminton website. If you have a copy of the CP Maddern tournament magazine, perhaps you will learn a bit more about him since there are player profiles within.
Congratulations Northern NZ Looks like Northern won quite convincingly! Here is the write up from the Badminton NZ website One of the most pleasing aspects of the win was the fact that four of the regions best players were unavailable for selection. Michelle Chan is currently in Germany attending an International Badminton Federation (IBF) training camp, William Bok and Alan Chan have New Zealand U 19 commitments later this month and Melissa Leviana is competing at the North Island U 16 Championships in Palmerston North. The successful team was made up of Dean Nuttall, Samantha McCamish, Vicki Copeland, Chance Cheng, Henry Tam, Danielle Barry, Samantha Thomassen, Brent Miller, Emma Rodgers and Sean Willins. The other New Zealand teams, Mainland and Central finished 6th and 8th respectively in the 8 team competition. The individual competition commences today (Wednesday) and New Zealand has top seeding in the Men's Singles (Chance Cheng), Men's Doubles (Cheng & Henry Tam) and in the Mixed Doubles (Tam & Vicki Copeland). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other good players were unavailable as well. & to be honest I think a trial is the fairest selection system - but at least the bizarre points system in favour for the last couple of years has been abandoned for 2006. Yes Chance is an excellent player! I thought he was originally from Beijing. He moved to NZ 3 or 4 years ago. Alan Chan is the only NZ player in this age group who can beat him. Chance, Henry & Sean all go to Westlake Boys which is the dominant boys' school in the secondary school competition over here. I think all 3 are still at school this year anyway!
Chance Cheng Thanks very much for all your prompt answers.....I am pretty sure he played for some province team in China but someone told me he was orginally from Shanghai..so.....He looks very cool in the game.....! Anyway he is good....but Jeff was very close to beat him as well...... Boris from Victoria is another one who shocked me by his age / skill......Can't believe that he is turning 13 ONLY...!!!!

From BNZ website; New Zealand has won two of the five individual titles at the CP Maddern Australasian U 19 Championships which have been held in Sydney, Australia over the past week. The wins came in the Men's Singles and Men's Doubles. In 2004 New Zealand made a clean sweep of the titles but this year sorely missed the presence of Michelle Chan who is currently attending an International Badminton Federation Training Centre in Germany. Chan won three titles in 2004. The star for New Zealand in 2005 was 16 year old North Harbour representative, Chance Cheng. He convincingly won the Men's singles and combined with Henry Tam, also of North Harbour, to take out the Men's Doubles. Tam was a losing finalist in the Mixed Doubles where he combined with Vicki Copeland of Waitakere. Full New Zealand results from semi-finals on: Men's Singles Semi Finals Chance Cheng beat Brent Miller (Auckland) 15-3, 15-9 Henry Tam lost to Jeff Tho (Victoria) 6-15, 7-15 Final Cheng beat Tho 15-7, 15-8 Men's Doubles Final Cheng & Tam beat Tho and Kenny Ng (NSW) 15-5, 15-9 Mixed Doubles Semi Finals Miller & Emma Rodgers (Auckland) lost to Tho & Ann-Louise Slee (Vic) 3-15, 9-15 Tam & Copeland beat Ng & Louise McKenzie (Vic) 15-2, 15-17, 15-10 Final Tam & Copeland lost to Tho & Slee 15-12, 10-15, 10-15 New Zealand also tasted success in the Men's Singles plate when North Harbour's Sean Willins took out that title. The individual titles won capped off a good week for New Zealand following the Northern Region's win in the Team section. This was despite having four New Zealand representatives unavailable. I can't say that Michelle Chan was missed. It just gave an opportunity for others to shine! Vicki Copeland was an ok player...I agree that Brent Miller had a good tournament. He was probably one of very few NZers who was reasonably polite and not arrogant around the court. I must admit that the girls singles final was quite boring, considering both players were Under 15 and from the same state! I was certainly hoping for a Leisha vs Spoorti final.
Ouch! Do you mean the NZ kids or just the Northern team, as I know the South Island kids usually are usually good sports, well mannered and helpful. I must admit, I think the CP Maddern should be for the kids in that age group. that being said - well done to both Erica & Victoria.
