German Open main draw 1st day

Nothing much happened in qualifying yesterday. Both Chen Li and Wang Rong qualified for the main draw, the latter halting the comeback of Wong Mew Choo, not unexpectedly.

Matches of the day (all 1st rounds):
    MS (R64)
Lee TS v P Gopichand (two players aiming for a comeback)

    WS (R32)
Koari Mori v Mia Audina (two feisty players who can retrieve like crazy; Mia has been missing for a while)

    MD (R32)
Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo v Sudket/Patapol (promising Chinese pair v experienced Thai hands)

    WD (R32)
Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia v Ooi Sock Ai/Mooi Hing Yau (Singapore's first v Malaysia's second; well, the other matches are not interesting)

    XD (R32)
    Thomas Laybourn/Kamille Juhl v Chen Qiqiu/Zhao Tingting

The website is really good too, you can see all the scehduled matches for each of the events, with thescores as they come in, and click on a particular match for more details of it.

We will see whetherthe updates are any good though!

Cant see many surprises so far in MS/XD

Only KKK/WPT (Mas) losing to an unknown (to me anyway) ukrainian pair in XD

Hope their intial run of form wasnt just a flash in the pan.

Can anyone understand the walkovers? there are serveral matches with walkover on them, but I cant work out who has who/who hasnt. amongst the matches with walkovers are xxz/bobby milroy, roslin/ronny andersen and Thomas Laybourn/kamille Juhl vs Chen/zhao.

KKK/WPT's lost is a bit surprise to me.but I think indeed the ukrainian are a little strong pair, not a unknown pair. They are single player before.

    xxzã€roslinã€Chen/zhao get a walkover.

Laybourn had a small injury from the clubsemifinals in Denmark. I guess it must be the reason.

Intresting result that Chen Jin beat jang (Kor), he lost to him in Korean open.

2nd big surprise of the day for me Elizabeth Cann (Eng) beat Tine rasmussen!

She has had a good season domestically, winning all the English elite opens and is national champion. she has beaten Tracey hallam twice in the past month!

    Anybody know how she plays?

    German open 2nd day

i must give credit to the outstanding official tournament website for the coverage it has provided thus far! :)

    Men Single highlights!

Gopichand takes only 7 and 4 points from Lee Tsuen Seng. the return of LTS? the magic of Li Mao? time will tell.

Kaldau falls to the BAM discard Sairul Amar Ayob (this seems to be what the press are calling him now a days) in 3 sets

Wong Choon Han stretched to a hard fought rubber by lesser known Mikkelsen (danish)

Singapore's US Open Champ Kendrick takes down England's Andrew Smith in a rubber after dropping the first set

Boesen stops the 'malaysian hariyanto arbi' Kuan BH in straights

ENG Ghaffar doesnt put up a fight againts Dutch's Palyama

the Ronald Susilo's return to international tounaments sends Wacha packing.

All Chinese march to the next round. Only Bao was pulled to a 3rd set by Danish Persson

Shon and Lee continue where the younger koreans do not

    thats all for now

Gong just recovered from a back injury. she had to skip some of the winter training and tournaments as a result.

Japan seems to be doing well, knocked out Olympics #2 and #4 in one day!
