Why do you drive or push in singles and doubles? Wouldn't it be easier to do a drop or smash??? thanks

You can't always take the shuttle above your head.

Most drives and pushes are taken in the midcourt. Obviously, you would prefer to smash the shuttle from this position, since that could be an easy winner. But you don't have the choice if the shuttle is at net height.

generally, in singles, you would try to push + drive whenever you're attacking (active) as it gives the person less time to get to the shuttle, and clear when you're defensive (passive), as it gives u more time to get back into position. It's a bit risky pushing/driving when you're in passive, cos if they get it back, you're going to be out of position to hit that shuttle (from your out-of position position) :D .
