PETALING JAYA: Indonesia have every right to be annoyed with the draw for the All-England men's doubles competition.

Three of their four pairs – second seeds Luluk Hadiyanto-Alven Yulianto, German Open winners Markis Kidho-Hendra Setiawan and former world champions Candra Wijaya-Sigit Budiarto – are in the same quarter. The other pair in the fray are last year's semi-finalists Flandi Limpele-Eng Hian.

Luluk-Alven will play against Koreans Jun Jae-sung-Lee Jae-jin in the second round while Markis-Hendra and Candra-Sigit are expected to meet each other in the second round. The winners of these two matches will square off in the third round.

Markis-Hendra open their campaign against an American pair, Indonesian-born Tony Gunawan and Howard Bach.

Flandi-Eng Hian are in the same half as top seeds Jens Eriksen-Martin Lundgaard Hansen of Denmark, China's Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun, South Korea's Ha Tae-kwon-Yim Bang-eun and Malaysia's Choong Tan Fook-Chew Choon Eng.

While the Indonesians will be rueing an unlucky draw for them, all the other countries are quietly happy with it, including Malaysia's Chan Chong Ming-Kien Keat, who are in the same half as the three Indonesian pairs.

“It is unfortunate that the Indonesian pairs are drawn to knock each other out. But it is good for others as we do not have to meet them in the early rounds. They are difficult pairs to beat,†said Chong Ming in a telephone interview from Birmingham on Monday.

Chong Ming-Kien Keat can only be up against an Indonesian pair in the semi-finals.

They open their campaign in the second round against the winners of the match Denmark's Michael Lamp-Rasmus Mangor Andersen and South Korean youngsters Hwang Ji-man-Han sang-hoon.

The pairs in their path to the semi-finals are seventh seeds Sang Yang-Zheng Bo of China and reigning world champions Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen of Denmark.

In the preceding German Open, were beaten by Koreans Jung Jae-sung-Lee Jae-jin in the quarter-finals.

“Our performances in the German Open were not too bad ,†said Chong Ming.

“We still need time to form an effective partnership. Every match will be tough for us but we will give our best shots. Our world ranking may improve a few rungs after the German Open. It will be good to do well in the All-England and gain valuable ranking points.â€

Chong Ming-Kien Keat are now ranked 32nd in the world.

The other Malaysia pairs in the fray for the All-England are Tan Bin Shen-Ong Soon Hock. Malaysia have not won the men's doubles title since the success of the Sidek brothers, Razif and Jalani, in 1982.
