...I need some racket recommendations please. Here's the criteria: -I'm 240lbs. and play for power -I'm usually on the offensive, rarely on the defensive -I play doubles 90% of the time -I'm rarely at the net and when I am, no one hits it to me I have an MP100, it's a good racket but I'm wondering if there are better options for my style of play. I heard the Ti-Swing SX would probably be ideal. Any other rackets to consider? AT700OF? NS8000? I plan to purchase 3 of these rackets, thanks for your help.
well, from what you have given sounds like you're quite the power player i reccomend the AT 800 Off, becuz it's extra stiff, good for smashing and it's mainly based for doubles play. however, if you're willing to go futher to get more racquets, you could look back to the ti-10...i think that racquet is a fan favourite due to the power it gives... anyways good luck with that
1. If u really like Mp100, maybe u should just stick with it. So far, I never heard anyone claim him/her could fully utilize such a stiff racket yet. 2. You mean AT800OF? Also, if u want NS8000, u have to wait quite a bit, since it won't release from JP in April. 3. Try all the rackets if u can, before take out ur credit card.
I'm definitely not your average sized Badminton player. I'm 5'11" and mostly muscle. When I show up to play Badminton people point and say, "The football field is over there."
The MP100 is powerful enough. Perhaps you should restring it with a thin string, like the new BG66 or the Gosen Pro66 or Tecgut Tour, to a tension of 28.5lbs for the mains and 31lbs for the crosses. This tension range on the MP100 will also be a good test on how efficient your power strokes are.
Taneepak, I'm running BG-70 Pro at 23-24lbs. (I think). I'm not necessarily looking for the most powerful racket, I'm looking for the best overall. I know that's a relative term but it gets expensive buying every racket and testing them. Better to get some expert advice here. I just may just get a few more MP100s...
AT800 DE or OF, these are design for doubles. just pick 1 that u feel the right balance for u. these are made for killer smashing and driving.
I strongly advise that you don't string at higher than 22x24; MP100s are ridiculously fragile. If you look at the Yonex selection chart[http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4389&page=4], MP100 is the second most attack-oriented racket, the most attack-oriented racket is NS 8000.
If you are in Hong Kong I will string your MP100 at a tension of 28.5/31lbs, using BG66 string, and with warranty. That is, if your racquet breaks during stringing, I will give you a brand new MP100.
Quick update and I hope it'll help others making decisions on the MP100. Today I went and hit with the MP100 for 3 hours, comparing it to my Bad R Us Evolution 777 and the MP100 was amazing. If you recall, I was saying the Evo 777 was comparable to the MP100. Well, now I don't think it's in the same league. I realized I wasn't getting the full potential of the MP100 prior because I wasn't flexing the shaft. That is, I wasn't hitting hard enough to maximize the performance. Prior, I was not swinging hard enough, maybe 75-80% my max potential because I wasn't used to the racket and was playing doubles. Today was just practice and I start hitting harder and harder and the MP100 just hit laser beams. Then I switched to my Evo777 and I could not hit as hard or as well. It's still a good racket but no MP100. I've seen a lot of reviews on the MP100 and they are all over the place. Many say it's a great racket while some say it's no good or just average. I feel the MP100 is only great if you are able to flex the shaft. If not, I would not recommend it. I'm going to pick-up a couple of more MP100s. I think my search is done. Hope this helps.
i'm something like you too... but i'm the overweight kind. i'm 183cm, errm 6.1ft? and i weight 200pounds/98kg. i'm also a power based player. MP100CP was my main racket for a long time... i like it for its stability, but recently, i switched to mp99... it works for me. maybe you should give it a try..
I don't have a MP100, nor do I intend to get one. My friend had an MP100 strung at 20lbs, and it broke during normal play, without clashing. It might not break during stringing, but you have to also consider how long it will last after stringing.
If a racquet breaks when playing but without ever clashing, then it is likely it was already damaged earlier, possibly from earlier poor stringing jobs. 2-point machines do stress racquets when pulling the crosses. You should use a magnifying glass and look over your racquet when you get it back from the stringer. I use a 10 x eye-piece, the type used to examine colour slides, solely for this purpose.
Off-topic, and hopefully this will be the last one. Not my racket, so I can't examine it. I didn't claim it was the tension. I'm only claiming that MP100 is fragile. If you read http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13212&, it probably is because that MP100 is one of the early batches.
