At some universities, I see that they string it differently than local stringers.

They leave one of the top portion and bottom portion of the grommet unstrung. What is the advantage of playing with a racquet like that? I hope you understand what I mean.

can you give more detail? what do you mean by leaving a portion of the grommet unstrung? meaning no strings goes through some of them?

Yep, no string goes through it at the top portion and the bottom portion, just above/below the square bed area. Hope that makes sense.

I seen a racquet that looks similar to the attachment where the highlighted area is unstrung.

no matter how i parse your sentence:

i cannot see any evidence in the picture of having "grommet unstrung". by that, i understood it as no string(s) goes through some of the grommets. (i hope you know what a grommet is)

as for the answer of your question, read this thread:

Maybe what he meant is that the top and the bottom cross is left unstrung.

I guess I used the wrong words. Sorry. The thread you directed to me was exactly what I meant, just didn't know what to search for in the search options.

    Thank you.

i think he is referring to skipped crosses.
its a method used to adjust the size of the sweetspot, and to move the sweetspot around.

By not stringing the top and bottom cross strings, will provides greater repulsion power. But one miss hit at the top, your strings will instatntly snap and the shuttle may get stuck between the main strings.
