Well not medical disease... Everytime I'm in a match, I get so nervous and will lose my cool and will not play properly. Although I got 3rd out of 18 teams, I still want to do better! Please tell me how to calm myself down!
Some tips: 1. Have enough sleep and rest. 2. Eat at least one hour before you play, eat something that's easy to digest. 3. Try to get familiar with the court if you are not playing at the same usual court where you practice. 4. Ignore the audience wether they cheer for you or your opponent, just focus on your game. 5. Make sure you warm up enough, I would suggest to do it until you feel relax and not tense nor nervous. Do the warm up step by step just like when you practice. 6. Try to enjoy the game as much as you can, don't think that you're going to win or lose, just think that you like playing badminton and always focus on the game. Also try to find your opponent's weakness. 7. Don't do too much trick shoots in the beginning, play save shoots first. The trick shoots can come later once you're leading or you feel more comfortable with all your shots. Know your strength and utilize it in the game. Good luck
Hehe Thanks! Ok let's see what have I NOT done... 1. No. I kept thinking about the game... 2. Nope I went up to my school hall to practice right after school but my friend wasn't there so I waited and waited he came only when the competition started and I didn't warm up... 3. Am familiar with the court so Yes. 4. LOL No one cheered for my class (it's an inter-class competition only the 2 teams of doubles were there... That's 4 of us.) 5. Well I don't really know what kinds of warm ups but I try to strectch my legs a little by bringing my foot the my butt haha... 6. I really really kept thinking about losing and winning. 7. No trick shots I was too nervous for even thinking about trick shots lol.. And I falied the "Don't Be Nervous" little test I guess haha and it really did play a very big part.
Perhaps, try listen to a music or something that you like, maybe read a book or something, this may help you relax and think about something else. The warm up that I meant was not only stretching, but you and your partner play on the court (half court perhaps) and play. Start with drive shots, then clear, then drops, smashes, etc. until you two warm. You and your partner need to come early to the court, don't be late! If you're still nervous after the warm up, then warm up more, it's okay to warm up until you get tired a little bit in this case ... as long as you know that you have enough stamina for the games.
Yes just my way of warm-up --- By playing a short game to get use to the pressure that's what I always do so that I'm more at ease.. My partner had some art council meeting therefore didn't have the time...
Relax before the game try and hav a laugh with team mates etc Andy Wood told me when i was playin to use his 3 'r's' when playin these are 1.release any emotion etc from the last point 2.review the situation you are in ie the score what you have to do 3. refocus on the next point and not the overall situation of winning/losing you do that inbetween points -hey it works for nathan robertson i was told
