HI, I was about to bid on a Nanospeed 7000 on Ebay (went for UK £67) for my son however on reading some of your threads (i don't play) I realised it is not simply a case of buying the best (supposedly) that is available and so held back on clicking the bid button. My son is 11, smaller than average and weighs in at a whopping 29kg. He has done really well in his first few competitions hence my reason for wanting to treat him to a new racket. His net play is good and he can get a good bit of power into his smashes but could do with something to help him get a bit more length and power when playing against bigger kids. His current racket is a Prince Hornet Ti Any advice would be greatfully appreciated.
before you bid on the racket, check out this thread: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13655 more than 1/2 of the rackets on ebay are fakes so take extra caution whom you buy it from.
thanks for that. To be honest, besides the concern that I might be buying something unsuitable I was also put off by the fact that the only things this chap was selling were "bling" rapper watches, so I also suspected they could be copy rackets
I advice the Yonex MP44 bought quite cheaply from http://www.pwp.com/badmintonrackets.asp?id=2&cat=Yonex Read your "private messages" (located at top right hand corner of screen) for why. jl
Hi Joes Dad Joe is a lucky kid, I wish my dad had got me a new racket when I was 11, I played with a Steel racket until I was 16 (big ahhhhh for me)! First of all, a new racket will probably not have the desired effect of getting a 'bit more length and power', the best way to get more length and power is to 1) Practice, 2) Get a stronger Wrist and Arm (this will come as he gets older) 3) Re-string his existing racket with some quality strings (yonex bg65ti are good) at a low tension, say 18-20lbs. Personally I think re-stringing the racket (to the specs above) will have the best effect, as the low tension (18-20lbs) will help produce more power in his shots. I just looked at the specs for a Prince Hornet Ti and it looks like a perfectly good racket, however if you really want to treat your son to a nice new racket then I would advise against a top of the range racket (like the nano-speeds) because they are very specialised and can be very difficult to play with unless you are a very good player. I would not buy a stiff racket either; this is because it can be more difficult to generate power with them. I would go for a yonex MP44 or yonex MP66 as they are both flexible and head-light which will allow your son to generate power and manoeuvre the racket easily. If you decide on the MP44, you should get it from www.pwp.co.uk because they are still selling the 2004 version (I have the 2004 version) which looks nicer than the 2005 version, also the 2005 version is more expensive because it is newer. The following on-line sites are all excellent, I have bought rackets from all of them and there service is exellent: www.pwp.co.uk MP44 (2004) = £40 ** BARGAIN + GREAT RACKET ** MP66 = £69 www.directsports-eshop.com MP44 (2005) = £60 MP66 = £65 www.centralsports.co.uk MP44 (2005) = £55 MP66 = £72 Hope I could help!
For a similar price to the one of that MP66, why not get the Carbonex20? Lots of people here grew up with it including our site owner Kwun... It's an oval head racquet and it's been debated that oval heads have smaller sweet spots compared to an isometric (or boxed shaped) head racquet. So your son will have a chance to practice his technique as he needs to hit a smaller area more consistently compared to the more forgiving isometric heads... http://www.pwp.com/badmintonrackets.asp?id=2&cat=Yonex Carbonex20 is listed there for 59.99 quid. And one last thing, lots of people here also swear by the carbonex's durability so you know it'll last for quite a fair bit
it s about 110 USD in my opinion is not very expensive compare to others, and it s a powerful rocket, definetly worth the price.
Kwun's question of "why" is a rethorical one. He is means that the Cab30 is too stiff and unsuitable for an 11 year old, regardless of whether he is the next Shon Seung-mo.
that, and i'd prefer to see any recommendations to include reasons instead of a blind recommendation.
Thanks all for taking the time to reply and for the constructive advice. We settled on a MP 66 which seems to have gone down very well
