I've heard the smash slice drop is the most deceptive and effective drop for singles. Can anyone teach me how to do it? I think a regular slice drop is brushing parallel to the net. Is a smash slice drop smashing it, but twisting your racket at the last possible moment so it achieves a 45 degree angle upon impact? Thoughts are most appreciated :D

45 degree smash is a way to counter high bird. When it either came from left or right use tude it slightly, you should have the feel but not of much impact, the bird will fly slightly over the court and over the net to the opponent court which causes them to jump forward to catch it.

this shot does work really well...i use it all the time and its hard to get for your opponent even if your opponent expects it...the way i do my slice drop smash is to hit the birdie with a backhand grip when its on my forehand..

But one TV comentator mentioned that if your conponent can read and return your smash slice drop to very close to the net, you can lose a point easily because you have to run from 1 corner to the other corner to retrieve the bird.

Does it works from back court shot or middle court only?

Usually, this shot is done when your opponent gives up a shot with a high return. If the shuttlecock goes middle court, I suggest you kill it instead with a smash. However, if you want to slice, it wouldn't be such a bad idea anyway... specially if your opponent is a good defender and can return your smashes.

Practice your slice. It works best when you send it to the side instead of to the middle so your opponent has to move further than he would if the shuttle went towards the middle. Oh, make sure your slicing form isn't much different from your smashing form. That's why it's called a deceptive move in the first place. ;)

Thanks Roydy. I'm now practicing this kind of move -- it works but need to perfect the execution, as I'm used to ordinary drop shot which is very predictable.

No problem! Remember, slice upwards with an angle like a / -->. The shuttle will drop fast and suddenly slow down when it goes beyond the net. Practice, practice and practice! :)

Um, Davao ka? Asa ka? I get to travel a lot. Dula ta!

I find it useful in doubles too as a change of pace from the regular hard smash, especially if you've been barraging your opponents with hard smashes. The thing I like about it is I don't have to alter the speed of my stroke--I tend to make careless mistakes when I take a little off the stroke to do a drop. The way I do it is I use the same smash stroke but I don't release the forearm and wrist hitting the shuttle with the racket face at a 45 degree (more or less) angle.

Ha. I like to slice a lot in games. The only problem is that when i slice the shots, the shuttlecock will be damaged.
Does anyone know how to do the Slice Backhand smash?

hi, do u guys hv any video clips showing how to perform fast deceptive smash-slice drop ? mind to share the link if u hv it .

i'm too trying to understand and learn this technique, but am concerned abt the shuttle going wide if my racket angle is not correct.

I hv tried the forehand slice smash-drop, but somehow the shuttle does not land at/before the service line, and it does not look deceptive to me either.

let me know if I'm missing something . thanks .
