Simple little game, requires a bit of thought but it's not difficult once you think about it. Give it a go anyway... Read the rules first then click on the link. Apparently this is an IQ test given to job applicants in China. "Everybody has to cross the river". The following rules apply: 1. Only 2 persons on the raft at a time. 2. The father can not stay with any of the daughters without their mother's presence. 3. The mother can not stay with any of the sons without their father's presence 4. The thief (striped shirt) can not stay with any family member if the Policeman is not there. 5. Only the Father, the Mother and the Policeman know how to operate the raft. 6. To start click on the big blue circle on the right. 7. To move the people click on them. 8. To move the raft click on the pole on the opposite side of the river. http://freeweb.siol.net/danej/riverIQGame.swf
i've seen many versions of this game, including kids, dad, mom, dog, servant, among others.. its not that hard, but takes thinking
something else i've heard they used to give job applicants at Microsoft, IBM, and other companies.. they have a huge list of questions recorded in a book.. this is one i remembered... you are downstairs, and there are 3 switches. each corresponds to 1 light bulb upstairs (in 3 separate rooms). i wont tell you which light bulb corresponds to which switch, but i can tell you that originally all 3 switches are in the "off" position. you can flick the switches as many times as you like, and play around with them for as long as you like, but you can only go upstairs once; when you come back you have to tell me exactly which switch corresponds to each bulb. if anyone thinks they know the results, they can PM me and check
i'm not sure about the river test (its definitely possible though) but i'm pretty sure big companies like microsoft and IBM gives some of these "logic thinking" tests to prospective employees, as they want people who have critical problem-solving skills
after looking up the book i was talking about (or at least i thought i was talking about), i found the link. for those of you with a little extra money on your hands, and interest in the subject area, consider getting this book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0316919160/qid=1113437048/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-0037412-5646500?v=glance&s=books note: i'm not advertising for this book by any means, just added it as a reference material for those who are interested. FYI, i dont even own the book but a friend of mine recommended it to me before
When IBM went to our college to recruit, they reserved 3 classrooms so all the applicants would take an IQ test at the same time. They said it's just for reference, but a lot of hiring managers do look at the score. But the questions were not as difficult as the river or light bulb test.
interesting how companies choose employees these days maybe the light bulb test was only for Microsoft.. i cant be sure because i dont know where the question originated. but from the title of the book (above) microsoft has been known to ask the question "how would you move mt. fuji" or something..
this doesnt makes sense......... i've played out all possible outcomes and it still leaves me with 1 confirm 'corresponds' and 2 50-50 guesses. so this leaves me with only 'thinking our of the box' option. -i dont understand why "(in 3 separate rooms)". the bulbs are upstairs.... there should be no way u can see the bulbs from down stairs where the switches are..... the 'seperate rooms' seem to be redundant. -you used the word 'correspond'.... i'll assume this can be define as 'the bulb which responds to the flicking of a switch.' ok.... so here is the solution. at first have 3 switches (switch SA, SB, & SC) and 3 bulbs (Bulb BA, BB, & BC). BA corresponds to SA, BB corresponds to SB, and BC corresponds to SC............. but of course we wouldnt know which is A, B, and C. ok..... first step flick a switch on (say SA). 2nd step. go upstairs and discover BA is turned on. 3rd step disconnect BB and BC 4th step go down and tell the instructor that SA corresponds to BA, and neither BB nor BC corresponds to neither SB nor SC. 5th step when the examiner says; 'NO U CANT DO THAT! THAT'S CHEATING!!!!!!!' just reply 'wasnt stated in the rules bub! its a legal move!!! LOL CASE SOLVED! good riddance cheers 8man
lol good try man.. but thats not the actual answer you can keep thinking about it.. if you want to know the real answer you can PM me and i'll happily tell you
