Hey guys.. just wondering.. any of you guys coming down to Melbourne for the 2006 Commonwealth games? I know that badminton isn't really a big sport compared to other events in the Commonwealth Games but I reckon it's worth checking out if you're a local.. Which country do you reckon will dominate? Most of the dominating countries are out for obvious reasons.. (not in the commonwealth..)
The countries which will dominate are the usual (Malaysia - in the Men events and England). When the Games were in Victoria a number of years ago, the field was pretty open but the Malaysians dominated the Men events. Australia will probably have an opportunity to win.
I'll go an apply to be a line judge or something and see how it turns out. If not I'll just go on a fun trip!! Backpacker style . If the stadium is with packed with wireless connection and I can rent a laptop you guys know what will happen
Haha.. its kinda weird how they're hosting it at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.. well, that's what I heard off a friend.. that's usually where they host conventions and stuff.. Initially, I thought that they'd do it at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, but yeah.. turned out that they didn't probably because the swimming is there.. I found this on the Exhibition Centre's site: 'The Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre offers a wide range of audio visual and communications technology including voice and data cabling, ISDN and Internet capabilities, a 750 extension PABX system and state-of-the-art fibre optics. All of which are discreetly linked to every area in the entire complex. So you can 'plug in' from any point. Not sure if they offer wireless access in other areas.. Bit of a bummer.. but who knows.. maybe they do..
In the next Commonwealth Games, maybe the Malaysian women can give a good show also. Singapore (Ronald) and Hong Kong (Ng Wei, Wang Chen) will emerge as new contenders. England as always will still have a say.

Yes, I believe there is a place in England called Badminton...I think that's why they have an annual "Badminton Horse Trials" or some type of showjumping event...
