  2. Racquet foot forward

    33.3%
  3. Both feet (roughly) square to the net

  4. It varies, depending on which side I serve from

Following the discussion in this thread, it's time to follow up with some statistics!

(And I decided we try a public poll this time!)

Or should I say... merged with another one....

But anyways, for people who chose varies depending on which side you're serving from, Is there a reason to it?:p

    Bug in the poll???

I'm pretty sure that I voted " Racquet foot forward" as this is the way I always serve.
So why does the poll say that I voted "Non-racquet foot forward" now??

Funny you should say that. I noticed the same thing. I thought I just had a blackout when I voted, but maybe not...?

i did the non racquet foot but i think the other way would be better, here why
when you get a good short serve, you bring your back foot in front to get square to the net with leg '' far one from other'', so when your non racquet foot come, your racquet foot is still planted on the ground and this give some advantage, nearest from your backhand net coner, feel more confortable to jump smash ( natural position).

disavantage of being square to the net: you have yo more both feet to get in position, this can be weird ehrn you don't know where the net shot will come

    Interesting poll.

If I'm in the right box, my right foot is forward, if I'm in left box, my left foot is forward. It just feels natural to me.

For me, it varies when I am on the right hand side of the court serving to the left, my right foot is out first ( non racquet foot)

When I serve on the left to right, my left leg is infront (racquet foot)

Hope that helps the poll. I voted varies.

    Cheers

Well, don't trust the results of the poll too much as there seems to have been a bug on all the first answers.
I answered "racked foot forward" and am counted as having answered the opposite ("non-racket foot forward)... [IMG]

It is racket foot foward.. I was doing it with non racket foot foward before and my coach told me it was wrong.
If non racket foot is foward you have a limited space and not enough space to serve. You can't do a flick serve because your leg gets in the way but if it was vice-versa you can do it.
Therefore it is racket foot foward lol
    100% sure
Look at some doubles badminton video and watch what foot they put in front:D

You can perfectly do a flick serve with your non racket foot forward.

Well maybe you can..but its incorrect
My coach said its racket foot foward
Look at some badminton video and see how they do it.

So because your coach says racquet foot forward, non racquet foot forward is incorrect

Ya it is incorrect because coach usually right and I find the reason he give me for racket foot foward makes sense.
Before I did non racket foot foward and after i switched it around I find it a lot easier to serve.(More space) doesn't hit non racket foot.

Here's a picture of Gong Ruina serving backhand:)
Notice how her racket foot is foward;)

So you're saying the serve of the number 2 in men doubles (Martin Lundgaard) is incorrect lol.
And why would you need more place if the shuttle is very close to your racquet when serving?

    Lol this is confusing :p
Honestly I don't know thats just what my coach says.
Most people I see serve with their racket foot foward

That's true, but that doesn't make the other serve incorrect ;)
