yes. unfortunately, even after i made the change, i came home from badminton today and noticed a few repeated threads and a few threads in the wrong forum. but the hope is that if 50% of the members reads it, then that will reduce the workload of the mods by 50%.
a member sent me this link to a flash video. totally spot on and hilarious at the same time: (note, large download) http://www.nearlygood.com/files516372/posting.swf

nice done but I think it s a little bit hard for new member to follow because when you type the question into the search engine it comes up with so many different kind of topics and there were so many responses to read
Re Hi, i agree with u. i remember when i join forum n ask a question, i was advise to use the serch engine. But at the end, i can't find the topic i want and end up getting other topics. I think maybe i do not know how to use the serch engine... ceng
hey guys, i totally agree. it is often hard to find posts that relate to your specific questions. i was faced with the "do a search" thing when i was a newbie at this forum too but i learned my lesson, and read many many posts, and now i can keep up and have a large enough knowledgebank to help people with questions. (and not ask repetitive questions). i dont tell people to do a search all that often though but thats just me kwun, i think the rules of posting reminder is great. good job!
You should sticky that as how not to post in BC. Don't blame me, Master Kwun, it's my inner child having some fun there...
If you read the 1st 2-3 index pages, and still can't find any related topics, feel free to ask the questions. That means this topic has not be touched for quite a while. If a question is repeated from some old topics that no one ever touched for yrs, I don't see anything wrong to bring it back into attention. I think the main purpose for the "posting rule" is to eliminate the obvious repeated topics. Many times, u can see ppl post the same topic, even there's already another one just 3 lines down there.
there are some good feedback here. i agree that searching isn't completely effective, but also want to point out that it is not completely ineffective. i am not seeking a solution that works 100%, that will be too optimistic, and at the same time, too restrictive. if it eliminates 50% of the repeated question, that will be quite helpful. however, as wilfredlgf's little message pointed out, if a user want to find the comparison between X and Y racket, simply type in the model number in the search should yield good results. often times, i see a new thread here and then i remember some old thread that dealt with the same issue. i went in and do a search on my own to find the old thread and merged them. two things happens here: 1. i am able to do the search, it may take 3-5 mins. and sometimes it is just as simple as typing in keywords in the thread title. 2. if there are 10 of these threads, then moderators will spend 30mins to an hour everyday just dealing with these issues. we obviously prefer our time to be spent elsewhere like talking about badminton. but i am glad everybody agrees that the reminder is a good one. as BC grows with many new members, it is essential to have more of these guidelines to make sure that BC maintain its reputation for being the most informative place in the internet for badminton knowledge. i still remember one old discussion we have a few years ago, i was objecting to having too many rules in the forum. i said that stricter rules shall only be imposed when we grow large. and i think i can say that i am glad we have grown to that point now.
I didn't post for ages. When reading this thread, I was thinking: "what's everyone on about / in which forum are these reminders posted??" But yeah, the rules brings out the need to search before you post very nicely.
Maybe not 24 but 12 is a gurantee on weekdays and weekends startin friday 2.30pm GMT+8 hours time I will be on tills Monday 6am GMT+8 hours time. If I am idle, I'm sure the irc script can kick in and do the business for us. I used to be a mod on irc chats for some sites long time ago and developed scripts just to do the business when i'm away
i have to say that i am not a big fan of realtime chatrooms. firstly, they are impossible to moderate. as you know, we strive to make BC suitable for all ages and having a daily unmoderated space will be very dangerous indeed. and then most importantly, quality is something that we value in BC and as far as i can tell, most discussion held in chatroom are more of the chit-chat category.
