Becoming champion in world junior championship is no easy. however, after being crowned as world junior champion, do the champions continue to shine in the senior competitive badminton??

I only can remember most recent successful World Junior Champions is Bao Chunlai, Sun Jun, Ardy*(not sure about how to spell this player's name who played Indonesian 1992 Thomas Cup Squad first single)..

And the Bao's batch of players, seen as most successful pack of juniors, are already matured today. The semifinalists of that year were Bao Chunlai, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan.

    Anyone else??

interesting question. i dug around to find out who actually participated in the WJC years back. and i found some interesting info:

    2000:

    MS:

    winner: Bao Chunlai
    2nd: Sony Dwi
semi: Lin Dan & Lee Chong Wei

we all know where they are

    WS:

    winner: Wei Yan
    2nd: Wang Rong
semi: Yu Jin (CHN) & Chien Yu-Chin (TPE)

Wei and Wang i think are still in the national team, but it has been 5 years since the 2000 WJC and they haven't made much achievement since then.

    MD:

    w: Sang Yang/Zheng Bo
    2:
    Xie Zhongbo/Cao Chen
semi: Hendra A. Gunawan/Markis Kidho (INA) & Sun Qi/Jiang Lai (CHN)

w & 2 are still in the national team, Hendra/Markis only once in a while. haven't seen Sun/Jiang at all.

    WD:

    w: Zhang Yawen/Wei Yili (Chn)
    2:
    Li Yujia/Zhao Tingting (Chn)
semi: Zhou Bingqing/Zhang Lu (Chn) & Wu Ying/Li Yanzhen (Chn)

w are in the Chinese national team, so is Zhao Tingting, Li Yujia (what a great name for a badminton player) is now playing for Singapore. the rest we have no idea.

    XD:

    w: Sang Yang/Zhang Yawen (Chn)
    2: Zheng Bo/Wei Yili (Chn)
semi: Hendra A. Gunawan/Lita Nurlita (Ina) & Lee Jae Jin/Hwang Yu Mi (Kor)

all are in their respective national team.

    WJC 1998 (Melbourne):

    MS:

    w: Zhang Yang (Chn)
    2: Yeoh Kay Bin (Mas)
semi: Chen Yu (Chn) & Arief Rasidi (Ina)

no idea where Zhang Yang went. Yeoh and Chen Yu are in their respective national teams. Arief Rasidi? i have never heard of him.

    WS:

    w: Gong Ruina (Chn)
    2: Hu Ting (Chn)
semi: Dong Fang (Chn) & Rong Yi (Chn)

Gong we all know. Hu i think is still in national team, not sure about Dong and Rong.

    MD:

    w: Chan Chong Meng/Tao Seng Kok(Mas)
    2:
    Jiang Shan/Cai Yun (Chn)
semi: Choi Min Ho/Jung Sung Gyun (Kor) & Sudek Prapakamol/Patapol Ngernsrisuk(Tha)

is this the same Chan Chong Meng? Tao, Choi/Jung no idea. Sudket and Patapol are still playing together in the THA national team.

    WD:

    w: Zhang Jiewen/Xie Xinfang (Chn)
    2: Gong Ruina/Huang Sui (Chn)
semi: Lee Hyo Jung/Jun Woul Sik (Kor) & Vita Marisi/Enny Widiowati (Ina)

now this is interesting. Gong and Xie ends up being WS players. Zhang and Huang still top WD players. Lee is still in KOR national team. Vita in INA national team, no? not sure about Jun Widiowati.

    XD:

w: Chan Chong Meng/Joanne Quay (Mas)
2: Choi Min Ho/Lee Hyo Jung (Kor)
semi: Jiang Shan/Huang Sui (Chn) & Cai Yun/Xie Fang (Chn)

Joanne Quay in MAS national team (still?)
Jiang and Choi no idea. the rest are still around.

Yes, Chan Chong Ming is two-time back-to back world junior doubles champion. He won it at the previous edition with Gan Teik Chai (*if not mistaken) :crying:. NOw parterning with Koo Kien Keat, ranked 12th currently the highest for Malaysian doubles.
