I've only played badminton in Finland so I've been wondering how much a badminton court rental costs in other countries. I'm playing in the capitol area of Finland, and 1 hour play in a decent court costs about 15 € = around 18 usd. What is that cost in your country?

I was under the impression that taxes were high in Finland, thus leading to a large welfare state (comprehensive state provision). Would sports facilities be heavily subsidised by the state? If so, court rental is quite steep.

    Cost in the UK:
    London (central) £12 per hour
London (outer regions) £9 per hour
    South of UK £7-8
North of UK £5-6 (this was a few years back, correct me if I am wrong).

Taxation is indeed high in Finland  . Still most of the collected money goes to healthcare & unemployment, not to sports. I do know though that court rentals are much lower in other parts of Finland - perhaps they are subsidized by communities? In capitol area subsidies go mostly to clubs & junior work (good!).

that must suck haveing to pay by the hour to use a court, im fine with paying entrence fee like $5 or $7 to get in and use a court for the whole day or however long i stay. and the good thing is that its not booking so that has its advantages but we let other people use the courts to. oh and the courts are actually pretty good.

or come to San Diego: we have lots of Free places to play. Not always great facilities, but OK and the price is right. I play free three days a week at local community centers, and could easily play more if I had the time. And downtown the Balboa park facility is really quite nice, well designed for badminton. Even there, play is either free or cheap--a $30 / yr membership gets you privileges over the non-paying public. The living is expensive here, but at least some things are free----for now. (San Diego is borderline-bankrupt, so this too may change).

Of course, badminton may be a different sport here: I imagine the better players among the casual US players would look pretty poor in comparison to the average club players in Asia, Canada, or Europe...so while you can play for free here, you might not be impressed with the competition?

Note: I'm a junior, dont know the prices for seniors.

I pay 170$ for a season. (starting of August till middle of April)
3 hours a week including coaching, REAL badminton courts and FEATHER shuttles.
For an extra 17.5$ I can get a key to the badmintonclub aswell, so I could play anytime.

Honestly speaking 15 € per hour is not that common in Finland either: it only applies to a couple of places in capitol area during 4 pm - 9 pm. I just wanted to encourage some conversation around this topic ;) . Most people don't pay that much because:

    A) their employer covers all/part of the court cost

    B) they play in a club, which has fixed rates for e.g. 6 months or full year (applies to me as well)

    C) they play during non-rush hours (usually daytime and late nights are 50 % of normal cost)

    D) they are juniors

Still I've found myself paying about 400 € per year for court rentals only (doesn't include tournaments & shuttles). I do play four times a week though (1,5 - 3 hour sessions) :p .

    In Belgium, avrage 3-4 euro/hour/court.

If you joint a club (exp. my club), it depends on "what" you are :
-Youth born after 1990, 53 euro/year, including trainings.
    -Recreational players, 60 euro/year.
-Recreational players who plays more than once a week, 80 euro/year.
    -Competition players, 80 euro/year.
All the cost is including insurrance.

We have a schedule for whole week, from Monday to Sunday.
So the players can choose when he/she want to play.
Mostly we have 4 courts to play, but it can also 8 courts.

At the RsM Weekender in montreal, it comes out to 4$ per session (4 hour session) if you get the membership. YMCA guest pass costs around 13$ or so last time I checked, but for 13$ you get to stay in the complex from opening 6:30am till closing at 10pm, playing badminton is assuming that the courts are free. I know of some other clubs where you can drop in, usually in the 5-10$ ballpark... all those are in canadian dollars, so i guess montreal's got it pretty good. However, all the clubs are on different ends of the island, and there aren't that many so there's a transportation consideration and an overcrowding problem at all these places.

And Benasp, 39.99$ CAD is NOT normal for BG-80:eek: . I can easily get you BG-80 for under ten dollars CAD, including taxes!
