Yello! An average pair of badminton shoes lasts anywhere from three to six months and they aren't exactly affordable. I noticed that getting the exact shoe size for your feet (barely any allowance) gives you a good 3 or 4 months of use. Not long enough. However, too much allowance causes too much foot movement in the shoe. Any suggestions for efficient shoe size? Thanks.
I'm not sure what you mean by efficient. As long as it fits you should enjoy using it. Try not to abuse it out of the courts for walking / running on concrete and so forth.
Efficient... Um, I mean, does the shoe age faster if you get the exact size or if you get a loosely fit shoe? Also, I've experienced toe aches on my left foot from doing around the head smashes. Any suggestions? Is there a bigger chance of getting this with tight shoes or with loose shoes?
mmm. Not really, if it's too tight yes it might cause you have to stretch the shoe more. And about your toe aches, maybe you're not landing properly and putting too much pressure on your toes...

I use a Mizuno.They don't have a tendency to stretch. I also buy shoes during the evening or late afternoon. I always take a shoe with a tight fit while wearing a nice pair of socks. Not too tight, just tight.My first pair lasted me a good 6 mos, though my footwork back then was horrendous. I just got my latest pair around a month ago it hasn't stretched a bit but it's already showing signs of wear and tear (due to correct footwork). Shoe life mostly depends on how much time you spend on the court, your footwork and the playing court's playing surface. I do have a separate shoe when playing on concrete floors.
I know about this a bit, used to work in a shoe store.. this would depend on the width of your feet, if the shoe width is too much, your feet will slide and might result in dead nails. when fitting the shoe try to do a sudden stop and see if you feet slides inside. check also the stretchability of the material. Personally I get shoes with a exact fit (not 1/2 size bigger... just exact fit.), I find there is less sliding for me. (By the way, I'm a dealer of mizuno.. let me know if you need anything. first I bought size 42 shoes, it feel to long & slipery inside. then I bought again size 41 (26cm) it still slipery but just a little, and I bought again size 40 (25.5 cm), they fit in my feet tight, but not too tight, I still can insert my Index finger in the back, but it hurt my big toe, when I wear it I tied it quite tight. I don't know i size 40 is too small or not because it feel like it still have a little space inside. Why my big toe hurt? does it means my shoes too small? or when I wear them I tied/pull the cord too tight? or should I wear size 41 instead? the length of my feet from heel to big toe is 24.5 cm
I have 2 pairs of shoes. I got the Yonex World Champion with the yellow ankle. I got a size 9 which felt just right with 2 socks on. It felt a lot better than my previous shoe which was a reebok. I loved that shoe it's just it wore out real fast. Just recently, I got the Yonex SHB 99. Got a size 9 again. I usually get 9.5 but I knew lose shoes would cause my foot to move inside the shoe. It's just this time, the SHB99 was a bit tight. I can squeeze my small finger at the heel. I have a feeling this shoe won't last as long as I wish it would but jumping, running, changing directions, etc, they all work and feel just right! I did notice however that the outer part of the forefoot seems to be pushing outwards a bit. Someday, when we get endorsed by Yonex, they'll supply us with shoes for each game!!! Watch out for me some time in the next century. Hehe.
You ship to the US? It's *impossible* to get Mizuno badminton shoes here. Volleyball shoes aren't easy to come by either and very expensive.
Ditto in Sweden, think the only Mizuno shoes you can find are a few models for running and some for golf. Think there should be some volleyball shoes available but haven't ever seen any.... / mats
