WMC has prove to us that she can be giant killers and with home court advantage does not help either...but I would not put my hope too high for a final appearance...even though the field is weaker than Opens, CHN is represented by some good youngsters.

to put it simple, WMC has a 50% chance of winning. not 51% or 100%. it just depends on her performance during the competition.

The Star: Stress-free ABC for Wong
By LIM TEIK HUAT
PETALING JAYA: Wong Mew Choo is the only Malaysian women’s singles badminton player to have qualified on merit for the World Championships in Kuala Lumpur from Aug 13-19 so far.
And she will be looking to chalk up another strong outing in her bid to narrow the gap between her and the world’s top players in next week’s Asian Badminton Championships (ABC) in Johor Baru.
The ABC is the last meet to garner ranking points to earn qualification for the world meet.
Mew Choo has climbed to 11th spot in the latest world rankings and said not having to try to qualify for the world meet from the ABC leaves her stress-free.
Mew Choo: Should be able to qualify for the quarter-finals of the ABC where she is tipped to play either Japan’s Kaori Mori or Malaysia’s Lydia Cheah.
“I do not have to worry about trying to get a place in the World Championships but I hope to continue to play well in all tournaments.
“My physical condition is not that good. I had a slight injury on my foot recently but it is responding well to treatment,” said the 25-year-old.
Mew Choo has a fairly good chance of going far in the ABC if she can repeat the form which saw her become the first Malaysian women’s singles player in three decades to reach the final in the Malaysian Open in January.
Mew Choo should progress to the quarter-finals, where she is likely to play either Japan’s Kaori Mori or fellow Malaysian Lydia Cheah.
Mew Choo beat the Japanese in the first round of the Korean Open this year.
Also in her half of the draw are Hong Kong’s Yip Pui Yin and second seed Lu Lan of China, whom she beat in the first round of the All-England last month.
In the absence of the top Chinese players, Wang Chen of Hong Kong is the top seed in the ABC.
But Mew Choo said she will take one match at a time, wary of the fact that she opens her campaign against Indonesia’s Francesca Ratnasari.
Mew Choo lost her SEA Games gold medal to Francesca in Manila two years ago.
“It is not an easy match. I lost in the first round in ABC last year (to China’s Chen Li) and I hope to avoid another early exit,” she said.
Mew Choo has reason not to be over-confident. After the Malaysian Open, she reached the second round of the Korean Open. In the All-England, she reached the quarter-finals before losing to the Olympic champion Zhang Ning of China.
Mew Choo was beaten by Wang Chen in the first round of the Swiss Open in Basel last month.

Sorry but no offends. Although Wong Mew Choo has beaten several top players, i still feel the Standard is too far behind compare to China WS Players. She still has a lot to work on to narrow the gap . . . . .

herm, it is true Wong Mew Choo standard is A LITTLE behind China top players. Zhang Ning and Xie Xingfang have a very stable and consistent game. This stability and consistency is missing the Wong Mew Choo. she has the ability to do well in a tournament but crash out early in the next tournament. the important thing is to build a good stamina and consistent match temperament.
what Wong Mew Choo is experiencing now is the same as what Xie Xingfang is experiencing at the beginning of the career in China team. after a few years, Xie Xingfang has a consistent game and almost untouchable by other players. so, give Wong Mew Choo a few years more to stabilize. don't expect sudden great results from her.
