Olympic Spot on her Mind

HER Malaysian Open run, which ended in the final, is what top woman singles Wong Mew Choo is counting on to motivate her as she bids for a good showing in the Asian Badminton Championships (ABC) in Johor Baru starting on April 10.
With the Olympic qualifying period beginning in May and the World Championships in Kuala Lumpur beckoning, it will be a busy year for Mew Choo as she is determined to feature in Beijing.

Currently ranked World No 12, her ABC preparations were hampered by a stiff neck but now that she has recovered, Mew Choo is raring to go.

"Even though I started training one week later, I am prepared for the ABC," said Mew Choo in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.
"I don’t want to set any target, as physically it’s been tough since the All-England, but I vow to try my best."

mew choo definately improve a lot
now she can beat CHN players
i like her fighting spirit
just have to improve on her mental strength especially during game points

WMC needs a few years more to be as stable as XXF. Currently, XXF and ZN is a step higher than WMC.

Although WMC has improved tremendously over the past 12 months and has beaten several high ranking players lately, I feel that skill wise she is still one or two notches below the top Chinese players like Zhang Ning, Xie XF and Zhu Lin. I like her gutsy play plus her never-say-die attitude. Her only weapon or trick seems to be the cross-court drop shot which has now become too predictable for her opponents. This is not going to win her tournaments. Which areas do you think she must improve further to have any chance of beating the top players esp. the Chinese? Personally one area that I feel she needs to develop is her smash. Her smashes lacked “sting”; she was not able to kill her opponents when there were opportunities for her to put away the shuttle.

true i have seen her play in MO n i think she needs to have more powerful smashes. and try to minimised mistake at the net.i saw her miss a few net shots. hmm maybe improve on her placing as well
